A JOURNEY TO
THE TOP
BY: RANDY GITA, LAYOUT & PIPING ENGINEERING

It was 10 o’clock in the evening, Friday night and, start of four-

day summer holiday or Natsu Yasumi, we are preparing for de-
parture to Gotemba in Shizuoka prefecture. Our car is set
(rental car) with gas in full tank, our things are packed along
with our food and water supply and few cans of oxygen. We
are going to climb the Japan’s highest mountain, the Mt. Fuji
(3776m). There were 4 routes available to climb the mountain
and we opted to take Gotemba Trail as it’s the only route with
parking space at the 5th sta on. The Gotemba Trail is the most
difficult route as it’s the longest trails with few huts available
with lowest star ng point at only 1400m above sea level. We
arrived at the Gotemba Trail’s 5th sta on around 6 o’clock in
the morning, the sun is barely visible light showers are pouring
from the sky cool breeze from the air. We eat our breakfast
and wait for the rain to stop before we start the hike. It’s
around 12 noon when the rain stopped. We started the hike
towards the top. We had to focus on our climb as one wrong
step could lead to an accident. There are fewer climbers here
as compared to the other 3 trails.

Three hours later it begins to rain again, slowly at first
then harder. It helps that we have the right gear for
this hiking e.g. rain coat, hiking shoes. As we con nue
to climb, the paths are ge ng more difficult as our legs
and back are now aching. We are looking at each other
and, thinking to stop our hike. It was easier to give up
but we kept going. Every once in a while, we stop to
take a rest, eat and drink water. As we went up higher,
the level of oxygen in the air decreases; our oxygens
cans were used to supplement the lacking oxygen in
our body to conquer more heights. It was around 8pm,
and we can see the light coming from the hut of the 8 th Reaching a goal is like climbing a mountain. All climbs

A positive attitude is something

that is most valued by managers
and co-workers, and that also
makes the job more pleasant and
fun to go to each day. It is the en-
thusiastic employee who creates
an environment of good will and
who provides a positive role model
for others.
Positive attitude increases your
faith in your abilities, and brings
hope for a brighter future.
You become able to inspire and
motivate yourself and oth-
ers. You encounter fewer obstacles
and difficulties in your daily life.

Having a good attitude is more important than
possessing all the skills for a job you may be
seeking. Skills can be taught in training, both on the
job and in classroom environments, while attitudes
on the other hand, are enduring but they can also
change.
Maintaining a positive attitude at work will benefit your career and
steer you towards a promotion. According to recruitment
sites, positive attitude is the most important quality that employers
look for in candidates and team members.

However, maintaining a positive attitude on a daily basis in the

workplace is harder than you may think. Work is stressful and chal-
lenging, and some of us face deadlines and obstacles on a weekly
basis. This is not an environment that fosters a positive attitude –
you really have to work at it. It is also important to meet deadlines
because it means that you avoid overworking yourself because you
haven't met the deadlines given. The deadline is set because some-
one needs to know what you are doing by date. Meeting dead-
lines is something that everyone has to do in their ordinary lives.

Always remember that a positive attitude helps

you cope better under stressful situations at
work. Workplace attitudes have an effect on every
person in the organisation, from the employees to
the clients and even to the company itself.

The work begins with a greeting “Sawatdee khrup”
(Hello/ Good morning) and ends the day with a farewell
“Pop kan mai proong nee” (See you tomorrow). In be-
tween those warm salutations are deliverables that need
to be done. The good thing is, working time is also the
most productive time of the day. Aside from getting the
job done, it is also the time where the “bonus” learning
happens. Little by little, I am able to pinch a bit of their
culture and grasp a bit of their language. Our colleague
teaches us how to do it the “Thai” way. Likewise, we
were also able to share it to them the “Pinoy” way.

Weekend? Who doesn’t love weekend? Regardless of

the place, weekend is a much awaited day aside from
the payday. Kidding aside, it is the time to de-stress
and energize from a week long run. It is also the best
time to explore what the city has to offer. Temples,
open parks, malls, boat ride, joy ride on sky train and
subway, Thai street foods or stay at home and prepare
home-made meal. More frequently, I prefer doing the
latter; I do not know if it has something to do my age.
As long as I felt satisfied and relaxed, and didn’t miss
to spin the laundry, I can truly say that it is a well spent
weekend.

With more than a half year to go before heading back

home, I am looking forward for more fun-filled experi-
ences while performing my job. Two contributors from
the previous issue mentioned about “choosing to be
contented and happy” and other says “quality of one’s
life is more of a choice”. I also share the same
thoughts with them. We do not have to be at a certain
place or stature to be happy. Best thing is happiness is
free. Luckily, being able to experience Bangkok life, as
well as extend it to my family, has definitely given me a
head start to be happy.

minds to be.” —Abraham Lincoln

From the past to present “TELEVISIONS

(TV)” are being upgraded from time to
time. One of the most notable is the
transition from Cube type to LED Type.
Of course, when we say upgrading it also
comes with a whole lot of new features

or functions. Among the new functions
are the Chromecast and Miracast:

What is Chromecast?
Chromecast is a simple dongle that plugs into your TV’s or receiver’s HDMI port, that plugs in-
to a power outlet, and that uses Wi-Fi to access the Internet and also Chromecast served as a
streaming media adapter from Google that allows users to play online content such as videos
and music on a digital television.

HOW IT WORKS?

The adapter is a dongle that plugs into

the TV's HDMI port; a cable connects to
a USB port to power the device. A mo-
bile app makes it possible to essentially
use a smartphone, tablet, laptop or
desktop computer as a TV remote. Once
the streaming begins, it's not necessary
to keep the app open, and the device
can be used for other purposes.
Chromecast can stream content from an
increasing number of sources including
Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Google
Play music, movies and the Chrome
browser.

9 Communique September 2019

Miracast is a screen-mirroring protocol
that lets you broadcast anything from an
Android device or recent Intel computer
to your TV. Whatever you see on the
small screen will appear on the big
screen. If everything syncs up properly,
there's almost no lag, making it ideal for
watching videos or using productivity
software, although it's not quite reliable
enough to run most games.

HOW IT WORKS?

Enable Miracast on your compatible Android smartphone or tablet, go to the Settings app’s Display settings or to
the Media Output settings, depending on your device model, and select the Miracast device in range. Just as with
Wi-Fi access points, any in-range devices should simply appear in the list. Once connected, your Android device
will mirror its screen directly onto the television, provided your TV or receiver is set to the same HDMI input as
the Miracast device. Push2TV and other Miracast devices can transmit data at 1080p resolution with 5.1-channel
