Subject: Application to Retake the First Midterm Exam of Business Communication, MKT-509,
held on December 16, 2020.

Dear Sir:

I am writing this letter to express my sincere apology for my absenteeism during the first
midterm examination scheduled for last December 16, 2020. I understand my truancy caused an
inconvenience to you, and I should have informed you beforehand, which I did not do, which
reflects my insincerity. I sincerely wish I could have been in class for that exam, and I cannot
alter the past.

In fact, I have been preparing to appear for this exam for the last few weeks and unfortunately
overslept it. I was absent because of not feeling well for the last couple of weeks and visited a
physician for my primary care. He diagnosed this as a viral infection, which is very common this
season. The doctor advised me to take complete rest and medication for two weeks.

Another reason is, we had an important meeting with our clients scheduled for that very day, and
it was my duty to chair the session. As a senior member of the organization and Head of the
Department, I had no other choice but to attend the meeting. On top of that, I cannot disregard
my responsibility. Yet, I am too embarrassed to use it as an excuse.

However, I am a diligent student who attends every one of your lectures attentively and
submitted every recommended assignment, including classwork work in time. I assure you that
usually, I do not miss any exams, and this is the first time of the whole academic calendar of this
year, I missed only this one.

Most importantly, every examination is significant to get a good CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point
Average). During this academic year, specifically this semester, I got a decent grade, an ‘A’ in
every midterm exam of other subjects. This Fall semester is the last semester of this year, and the
final examination is on the doorstep. If I missed having the opportunity to retake the exam for
this subject, I would lose to maintain a good grade, and ultimately, it will hinder my final CGPA.

Additionally, if I can attain an average CGPA of 3.50 at the end of my entire EMBA course,
there is an opportunity to receive an academic scholarship from my office. Besides, it will also
accelerate the prospect of conquering a higher-level position.

Thus, I believe you understand how important this midterm exam for me. I am undoubtedly
ashamed for not being present in the exam hall and would like to express my most profound
regret once again.

Hence, I cordially request you to accept my earnest apology. If you allow me, I would be grateful
and appreciate the chance to sit for a retake exam of the first mid-term at your convenience. I
would hope that you will consider my request.

Indeed, I humbly would like to remark that you have been a phenomenal teacher. Thank you for
helping us understand how this study could foster our professional success and develop
communication and leadership skills.
