Upgrading instructions, ORION controller Table of contents

1 About upgrading and updating
This document has been created for ORION software version V5.10. The document is
updated only when necessary when new software versions are released.

Upgrading a power system usually results in improving its operations by replacing the
ORION controller software, activating additional features.

The configuration in the ORION controller may need to be updated if additional rectifiers
are added. In the event that rectifiers are removed from the power system, the
configuration in the ORION controller will need to be updated to prevent unnecessary
alarms being generated.

2 Upgrading instructions, ORION controller About upgrading and updating

2 Upgrading ORION controller software
Upgrading the software version of the ORION controller allows new functions to be
added. The software can be replaced through the web user interface either by direct
connection to the ORION controller, or over a LAN.

2.1 Compatibility of different HW and SW versions

As a generic rule the new SW versions are backwards compatible which means that the
old systems in field can be upgraded with the latest SW version.

The detailed information about the compatibility of the SW and HW versions is presented
in the following table.
TPS1020001A
ORION ID:A1

V5.00 Yes
V5.10 Yes

2.2 Upgrading ORION software

Use the following procedure to update the software through the web interface:

Step 1 Go to Configuration → System → File Manager.

Step 2 From the “File Type” drop-down list select “ORION SW” and click “Load File
from PC”.

Step 3 Click “Browse” and choose the SW file to be transferred, and select it.

Step 4 Click “Start”.

The progress of the update will be displayed. If an error occurs, the update procedure will
stop. Upon completion, the ORION will automatically reboot with the new software.

Note! The upgrading of V5.00 into a higher version must be done without a
setup file. Please be aware that default network settings are used after reboot
and therefore this upgrade cannot be done remotely.

Use the following additional procedure:

Remark: The location of the File Manager with V5.00 is Home → System → File
Manager.

Step 1 Save the setup to your PC as instructed in section 4.2 "Download

configuration to PC".

Step 2 Delete the setup file in File Manager.

Step 3 Update the SW as instructed above.

Step 4 Reload the setup from your PC as instructed in section 4.3 "Upload
configuration from PC to ORION".

3 Downgrading ORION controller software
ORION allows downgrading to an older software version. In contrast to the upgrade
ORION is not able to convert the configuration automatically. Before downgrading the
software, the configuration file must be deleted manually in the File Manager dialog on
the Web interface.

Please be aware that default network settings are used after reboot and therefore
downgrading cannot be done remotely. In addition, the old configuration cannot be
retrieved anymore i.e. the complete configuration is lost including settings such as SNMP.

Note! Before downgrading the ORION software the configuration file must be
deleted manually in the file manager.
ORION is not able to interpret setup files created with a newer software version
than the currently running.

Note! It is not possible to downgrade to 5.00.

Use the following procedure to downgrade the software through the web interface:

Step 1 Go to Configuration → System → File Manager.

Step 2 Check the “Delete” box of the setup file and click “Accept Changes”.

Step 3 From the “File Type” drop-down list select “ORION SW” and click “Load File
from PC”.

Step 4 Click “Browse” and choose the SW file to be transferred, and select it.

Step 5 Click “Start”.

The progress of the update will be displayed. If an error occurs, the update procedure will
stop. Upon completion, the ORION will automatically reboot with the new software.

6 Upgrading module SW
In some cases using the new controller functions requires upgrading of rectifier SW or the
software of front-end modules connected to the IMBUS. The module software can be
upgraded through the web user interface either by direct connection to the ORION
controller, or over a LAN.

The upgrading of module SW is done in two steps. First the SW is uploaded from PC to
ORION and then the SW is loaded into the module.

6.1 Step 1: Uploading module SW files from PC to ORION

Step 1 Go to Configuration → System → File Manager.

Step 2 The file manager window can handle up to 4 files. If necessary, one file must be
deleted in advance. To do so, click the checkbox of the file to be deleted, then
click “Accept Changes”.

7 Activating SNMP
SNMP is activated by means of a software license key, which can be obtained from the
manufacturer or authorized representative.

Each controller needs an individual license key which is based on MAC address of the
controller. The MAC address can be read through WEB GUI. It can also be read locally
through the UIM / UIL or from the product label on the controller.

SNMP can be activated either in the field with a laptop connected to the ORION, or
remotely over a LAN.

Note! The software license key is not saved in the setup file and cannot be
copied from controller to controller.

Note! Delta provides two Management Information Base files that must be
copied to the NMS application.

7.1 Locating the MAC address

7.1.1 Web interface

To locate the MAC address, go to Configuration → System → Interface Setup → TCP/IP.

The MAC address is displayed in the Ethernet Setup dialogue.

7.1.2 UIM/UIL interface

To locate the MAC address, go to NET CONFIG → MAC-ADDRESS and press .

7.2 Installing the software license key

The ORION software options can only be activated with the web user interface.

7.2.1 Web interface

Step 1 Go to Status → ORION Options.

Step 2 Enter the license key code and click “Accept Changes”.

Step 3 Reboot the ORION: Go to Status → ORION Options, click “Reboot”.
