PLO-2: Problem Analysis: An ability to identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems
reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
CLO-3: Analyze and solve the problems related to kinetics of rigid bodies using different principles and techniques for their
solution
Attribute 5: Familiarity: Can extend beyond previous experiences by applying principles-based approaches.

Problem Statement

The wheels of train are connected to each other as shown in figure. The force is transferred fom one wheel to other one
through pins. It is therefore very critical to analyse these wheels for the forces and accelerations. The following problem is
analogous to the above statement except the weight of train is not included.

Two uniform disks A and B, each of mass 2 kg, are connected by a 1.5-kg rod CD as shown. A counterclockwise couple M of
moment 2.5 N-m is applied to disk A. Knowing that the disks roll without sliding, Analyze the wheels on the bais of (a) the
acceleration of the center of each disk, (b) the force exerted on disk B by pin D.

Requirement from Students

This CEP is an individual task. Each student must work on the problem and give a proper analysis of accelerations and forces
on the wheels.

Assessment Criteria
The assessment of the CEP will be according to the rubrics defined particularly for this CEP.

Note: Students whose report have similarity index ≥ 50% will be marked out of 25.
