ASSIGNMENT # 1

NAME: SHAIKH NEHAL AHMED

Roll No.: 028
𝟐𝒙𝟏 −𝒙𝟐 +𝟐𝒙𝟑 = 𝟎
Q.1 (i) 𝟒𝒙𝟏 +𝟒𝒙𝟐 +𝟐𝒙𝟑 = 𝟏 (by Gauss elimination method)
𝒙𝟏 +𝒙𝟐 +𝒙𝟑 = −𝟏

SOLUTION:
𝟓𝒙𝟏 + + 𝟒𝒙𝟑 + 𝟐𝒙𝟒 = 𝟑
𝒙𝟏 − 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙𝟑 + 𝒙𝟒 = 𝟏
(ii) (by Gauss Jordan method)
𝟒𝒙𝟏 + 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙𝟑 = 𝟏
𝒙𝟏 + 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒙𝟑 + 𝒙𝟒 = 𝟎

SOLUTION:
Q.2 (i) Find non trivial Solution ,if it exists.
𝟓𝒙𝟏 −𝒙𝟐 +𝒙𝟑 = 𝟎
𝟑𝒙𝟏 +𝟐𝒙𝟐 +𝟕𝒙𝟑 = 𝟎
𝒙𝟏 +𝒙𝟐 +𝟑𝒙𝟑 = 𝟎

SOLUTION:
(ii) Solve
𝒙𝟏 +𝒙𝟐 +𝒙𝟑 = 𝟏
𝟐𝒙𝟏 +𝟑𝒙𝟐 +𝟒𝒙𝟑 = 𝟑 (by Cramer’s rule)
𝟒𝒙𝟏 +𝟗𝒙𝟐 +𝟏𝟎𝒙𝟑 = 𝟏𝟏

SOLUTION:
𝑎
Q3 (i) Let W={[𝑏] 𝑐 = 𝑏}.
𝑐
Does W is a sub space of 𝑅3×1 ?

SOLUTION:
(ii) Does the set of real number is vector space. justify your answer.

ANS:
The set of real numbers is a vector space over itself: The sum of any two real numbers is a real number,
and a multiple of a real number by a scalar (also real number) is another real number. And the rules work

Q4 which of the vectors:

A= (1,2,1,0), B=(4,1,-2,3), C=(3,6,-2,5), D=(-2,3,-1,2)

are linear combination of the vectors

X= (3,6,3,0), Y= (1,0,0,0),Z= (3,6,-2,5),W= (0,0,0,1)

SOLUTION:
Vector B is a linear combination of other vectors hence here’s a proof
