Projects under my management:
• Project name: Alpha Cooler System
Alpha Cooler is the smart monitoring cooler that tells you the inside temperature of the cooler at any given
time. This cooler is used by hospital blood banks. It stores blood units inside for delivery inside hospitals.
Includes a screen to display the cooler status and temperature. Embedded wireless sensor to measure payload
temperature and communicate it to the main controller. Included Bluetooth capability which connected to the
MaxTemp Mobile App to download the data.

the AWS MaxTrace Server. Users could log in to the website and track the cooler status in near real time.
• Project name: iTCP System
A new product line for the clinical trials market. Includes all features of the Alpha Cooler but a brand new look
and is removable from the cooler via a magnetic connector. Cutting-edge energy prediction feature to predict

• Awarded US.Patent #10342737B1 ”Active Monitoring System for Thermally-managed Transportation and
Storage of Specific Perishable Products”, granted July 2019.
A shipping and storage system which has an access panel with an optional open/close status sensor, and a
payload carrier with an affixed sensor connected to a tracking module that monitors the environment of the
payload carrier, such as temperature, against a pre-determined threshold for compliance with pre-determined

is detected by the tracking module, a user alert or user interface is activated. Advanced features optionally
include a plurality of pre-determined threshold sets for a plurality of specific payload types, a tamper detection
function based on the access panel status and optional weight changes in the payload carrier, and wireless
connectivity to allow mobile device and cloud-based enhanced management functions.

• “A Miniature Smart Home Testbed for Research and Education”, Trung Nguyen, Barth Lakshmanan, Weihua
Sheng, in IEEE-Cyber 2017.
In this paper, we present a cloud-based smart home testbed using a miniature doll house. The testbed consists
of a smart home server, a home controller, a smart home assistant, appliances, and clients communicating with
each other using web sockets and existing social network software development kits (SDKs). Particularly, we use
this testbed to demonstrate energy conservation with the interconnected network of devices. The proposed
testbed allows research and education in areas such as smart grid, wireless sensor network, machine learning,
pattern recognition, embedded programming, natural language processing, social media, etc.
• “A Smart Security system with Face Recognition”, Trung Nguyen, Weihua Sheng, in ARXIV 2018.
Web-based technology has improved drastically in the past decade. As a result, security technology has become
a major help to protect our daily life. In this paper, we propose a robust security based on face recognition
system (SoF). In particular, we develop this system to giving access into a home for authenticated users. The
classifier is trained by using a new adaptive learning method. The training data are initially collected from social
networks. The accuracy of the classifier is incrementally improved as the user starts using the system. A novel
method has been introduced to improve the classifier model by human interaction and social media. By using
a deep learning framework - TensorFlow, it will be easy to reuse the framework to adopt with many devices and
applications.
