Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Response and Analysis

Reading Check:

1. Tybalt aims to fight with Romeo for coming to the Capulet’s party. Mercutio was

defending Romeo while Romeo and Tybalt were fighting and he got stabbed by Tybalt’s

sword. He didn’t see it was coming because Romeo was in front of him so he got killed.

2. Romeo killed Tybalt as a revenge for killing his friend, Mercutio, and for making it fair for

both families.

3. After hearing of Romeo’s banishment Juliet threaten to kill herself because she would

choose to die than marrying Paris and live without her Romeo.

4. Friar’s plan was to make Juliet drink the potion before the wedding which will make her

looks like she is dead. Then everyone will think she’s dead and keep her in the Capulet

tomb. Friar will send a letter to Romeo so that when he comes, Juliet would be awake.

5. Juliet’s parents plan for her to marry Paris.

Thinking Critically:

6. Romeo’s killing Tybalt is the turning point of the play as it sets to make their issues to

continue which leads to the death. It leads him to have less chances to be with Juliet

because he killed a Capulet.

7. In scene 3, because of banishment, Romeo almost stabbed himself with a dagger

but he didn’t. In scene 2 Juliet wants to kill herself because at that time, she thought she

have to marry Paris and never see Romeo ever again.

8. The nurse offend Juliet by telling her to marry Paris and forget about Romeo even

though she is already married to Romeo. This causes lose her trust on the nurse so,

she end up going to Friar for help, which caused the whole tragedy of Romeo, Juliet,

Mercutio and Tybalt to die.

9. Romeo changed by wanting to make peace with Tybalt to killing him because Tybalt

killed Mercutio. Juliet changed, however, at the beginning she would do whatever her

parents say but ended up marrying with Romeo without her parents agreement. They

both learned that love is not easy and simple or be like what they expected to be.

Mercutio is the messenger for Romeo as the name of the god of messenger. The

element mercury can change different temperature easily which matches with

Mercutio personality because he can get angry and change their moods easily.

2. The latin words that describes Benvolio are “bene”, which means “good” and

“volent” means wishing. Benvolio’s name matches his character because he is a

good person.
