Recall  that  a  ‫’ﺣﺮﻑف‬s  only  job  is  to  ‘beat  up’  the  word  right  after  it.  In  the  case  of  ‫ﺣﺮﻑف ﺟﺮ‬,  it  
makes  the  word  after  it  ‫ﺟﺮ‬.  There  are  eleven  ‫’ﺣﺮﻑف ﺟﺮ‬s,  of  which  we  will  now  study  the  last  six:
 

‫ﺇإِﻟَﻰ‬ ‫َﺣﺘﱠﻰ‬ ‫َﻋﻠَﻰ‬ ‫ﻋ َْﻦ‬ ‫ﻓِ ْﻲ‬ ‫ِﻣ ْﻦ‬ ‫َﻭو‬ ‫َﻝل‬ ‫ﻙك‬
َ َ‫ﺕت‬ ‫ﺏب‬

1. ‫ ِﻣ ْﻦ‬:  from  
a. Example:  ‫ ِﻣ ْﻨ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬ (from  you  all)    
b. Sometimes,  when  connecting  ‫ ِﻣ ْﻦ‬ to  something  else,  the  ‫ ﻥن‬ takes  a   َ◌,  making  it َ‫ ِﻣﻦ‬ 
i. Example:  ‫ ِﻣﻦَ ﺍاﻟ ﱠﺴ َﻤﺎ ِء‬ (from  the  skies)  
2. ‫ﻲ‬
ْ ِ‫ﻓ‬:  in  
a. Example:  ‫ ﻓِﻲ ﺍاﻟﺼﱡ ُﺪﻭوْ ِﺭر‬ (in  the  chests)    
3. ‫ﻋ َْﻦ‬:  about    
b. Example:  ‫ ﻋ َْﻦ ِﺫذ ْﻛ ِﺮ َﺭرﺑﱢﻲ‬ (about  the  remembrance  of  my  Lord)  
c. When  you  connect  ‫ ﻋ َْﻦ‬ to  something  else,  the  ‫ ﻥن‬ takes  a  ◌ِ ,  making  it  ‫ ﻋ َِﻦ‬ 
i. Example:  ‫ ﻋ َِﻦ ﺍاﻟ ﱠﺴﺒِﻴﯿ ِْﻞ‬ (about  the  path)  
4. ‫ﻋﻠَﻰ‬
َ :  on/upon  
d. Example:  ‫ َﻋﻠَﻰ َﺟﺒَ ٍﻞ‬ (upon  the  mountains)  
e. Sometimes  this  is  pronounced  ‫ َﻋﻠَ ْﻲ‬ when  it’s  connected  to  a  pronoun;  otherwise  
it’s  typically  pronounced  as  ‫ َﻋﻠَﻰ‬ 
i. Example:  ‫ ﺍاَﻟﺴ َﱠﻼ ُﻡم َﻋﻠَ ْﻴﯿ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬ (peace  be  upon  you  all)  
5. ‫ﺣﺘﱠﻰ‬
َ :  until  
ْ ‫ َﺣﺘﱠﻰ َﻣ‬ (until  the  rising  of  the  dawn)  
f. Example:  ‫ﻄﻠَ ِﻊ ﺍا ْﻟﻔَﺠْ ِﺮ‬
6. ‫ﺇإِﻟَﻰ‬:  to  
g. Example:  ‫ ﺇإِﻟَﻰ ﻳﯾَﻮْ ِﻡم ﺍا ْﻟﻘِﻴﯿَﺎ َﻣ ِﺔ‬ (to  the  day  of  judgement)

h. Sometimes  this  is  pronounced  ‫ ﺇإِﻟَ ْﻲ‬ when  it’s  connected  to  a  pronoun;  otherwise  
it’s  typically  pronounced  as  ‫ ﺇإِﻟَﻰ‬ 
i. Example:  ‫ ﺇإِﻟَ ْﻴﯿﻨَﺎ‬ (to  us)
