Now that we have learned the 3 statuses of ’ﺍاﺳﻢs, it is time to organize it in a way that is easy to
memorize. The way we’re going to do this is with the Muslim Chart:
Since Arabic has masculine and feminine words, we need a feminine Muslim chart as well. We
call this the Muslimah Chart:
ٍ ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤﺎ
ﺕت ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤﺘَﻴﯿ ِْﻦ ً ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤﺔ ﻧﺼﺐ
ٍ ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤﺎ
ﺕت ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤﺘَ ْﻴﯿ ِﻦ ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ َﻤ ٍﺔ ﺟﺮ
Just as with the masculine chart, we have ending sounds and ending combinations. With
feminine words, we still use ending sounds and ending combinations to tell what status a
word is in.
1. Ending sound (singular ’ﺍاﺳﻢs): same as masculine, except with ﺓة
2. Ending combination (dual and plural ’ﺍاﺳﻢs)
ٌ (aatun), ﺕت
a. These are ﺗَﺎ ِﻥن (taani), ﺗَﻴﯿ ِْﻦ (tayni), ﺍاﺕت ٍ ﺍا (aatin)
i. The dual feminine version is similar to the dual masculine version
except there is an extra ﺕت at the end
ii. The plural version will have ﺍاﺕت ٌ for ﺭرﻓﻊ and ﺕت
ٍ ﺍا for ﻧﺼﺐ and ﺟﺮ.
b. It is important that we don’t confuse the plural ﺍاﺕت ٌ and ﺕتٍ ﺍا with ending sounds.
The double vowel (◌ٌ and ٍ◌) at the end makes it sound similar to a singular ﺍاﺳﻢ,
which ends with an ending sound. To clarify this potential confusion, one
should instead look for the ﺍاﺕت ending combination.
c. Again, note for dual and plural ’ﺍاﺳﻢs: ﻧﺼﺐ and ﺟﺮ look the same. Don’t be
confused by this! Memorize it the way it is for now. Later on you will be able
to tell the difference from context.
Now that we have completed the Muslim and Muslimah charts, let’s do some practice. Using
the charts above and what you have learned previously, provide the status (ﺭرﻓﻊ, ﻧﺼﺐ, or )ﺟﺮ,
number (dual/singular/plural), and gender (masculine/feminine) for the following words.
1. ﺏبٍ ِﻛﺘَﺎ
2. ﺎﺕت ٌ َ ُﻣ ْﺆ ِﻣﻨ
3. َﺎﻥن ِ َﺎﺻ َﺤﺘِ ﻧ
4. ﺕت ِ ﺍاَ ْﻟ ُﻤﺤْ ِﺴﻨَﺎ
