Economic Importance of Tobacco
The main economically important part of tobacco plant is tobacco leaves. Tobacco
industry is a big industry and it remains all over the world and they directly depends on tobacco
plants. Tobacco leaves are mainly used for smoking, snuffing or chewing. Though tobacco
leaves have an industrial importance, but use of tobacco is one of the leading preventable
causes of death, killing more than 7 million people every year. It also burdens the global
economy with an estimated US$ 1.4 trillion in healthcare costs and lost productivity each
year. In our country, the scenario is almost same. So we should consider the health issue
when we consider it as an economically important crop.
