Vision 2022 is a fundamental rebuilding of the structures of SAFA at all

levels to create the conditions that will bring about the sustained
international success of our national teams

 We have set our sights on a long-term development plan to achieve

the goal of always being in the top 3 of the African rankings, and in
the top 20 of the World rankings

 10% of the South African population must play football. Therefore,

we need to redouble our efforts to:

Football Development Plan

The Key Pillars of this development framework are:

 The South African Football Philosophy and the cascading of this
down to all our development structures;
 The building of a robust and well run talent pipeline;
 The rational and comprehensive alignment of all our competition
frameworks and structures;
 An ambitious programme of coach education and deployment to
achieve the ratios of players to footballers that we require to be
competitive
 Ensuring that the correct level of football infrastructure (facilities,
match officials and administrators) exists at every LFA, Region and
Province;
 Utilising world class technologies at all levels;
 Ensuring that we incorporate the latest insights from Sports Science
and Sports Medicine.

The South African
Football
Philosophy
What is a Football Philosophy?
 The South African Football Philosophy defines the desired structure and style
of our football, integrating global best practice with the specific values,
traditions, culture and resources of our nation. The SAFP allows us to draw
from our strengths as a nation while being open to learn at all times from the
ever-deepening well of global football trends.

 We must implement The South African Football Philosophy so that we can

align coaching practices, talent identification and development processes and
practices into the style and structure of our national teams of all ages.

 The SAFP defines who we are as a footballing nation, and how we play.
Our game, our way.
Performance is Driven by a National Philosophy

1. Defensive Play
2. Offensive Play
3. Fast Transition
4. Define Player Attributes
5. Technical / Tactical
6. Physical Attributes
7. Social / Cultural Influences
8. Assess Trends & Challenges
9. Determine Implementation Mechanisms
10. Coach Education
11. Talent Identification
The South African Football Philosophy: Ubuntu, Tsamaya, Phakathi
The philosophy of “Ubuntu, Tsamaya and Phakathi” is unique. It is competitive
in approach, skillful by nature, and results in a common winning goal.

This is achieved through a maximised collective performance, enhanced by a

dominant individuality and versatility in a functionally balanced playing system of
defence, transition and attack.
 Ubuntu recognizes a collective team, dependent and caring of each other, building
on and cherishing our diversity whilst acknowledging that all our individual
actions must be aligned to a common goal through compassion and humility.
 Tsamaya recognizes and expresses our mentality of creative, skillful, guileful and joyful
expression of flair and individual brilliance that is celebrated within the collective.
Our rich talent of ball control, guile, skill and individual brilliance must produce
- game-breaking moments against well organized defensive patterns.
 Phakathi recognizes that winning the game is by putting the ball in the net. Without the
direction and objectives summarized by the value of Phakathi, our skill can be
wasteful and our collective be stifling.

Scoring the goal is the

final product
