CLASSES REGISTRATION:

The students registered for the course are allowed to attend classes.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: As per University policy, a minimum of 70% attendance shall be

required for a student to be eligible to appear in the Mid and End Term examinations. All students

concerned are advised to keep in touch with their attendance records through their UOG email

account. The students with less than 70% attendance shall not be allowed to take classes after Mid

Term Examination.

CLASS RULES AND REGULATIONS:

• Without registration and UOG ID card no student shall be allowed to attend the class.
Students are advised to display the UOG card in a visible position.
• The class shall be started as per given time table. No one shall be allowed after 10 Minutes of
the commencement of class unless genuine excuse.
• Students are encouraged to interrupt by asking the questions during the lecturer.
• Drinking, smoking, mobile usage, sectarian or political discussion and immoral / unethical
activities shall not be allowed during class.
• Students are welcomed any time during office hours to visit instructor’s office.
• All the communication regarding any lecture or change of class etc. (if any) shall be
forwarded directly to the students’ given email inbox; however, the hard copies for Xerox (if
any) shall be given to any responsible student to place at the photocopiershop. Thus students
are advised to keep in touch with their e-box.

ASSIGNMENTS/PROJECT REGULATIONS:
• Assignments/project shall be submitted within due date in soft using turnitin and/or HELP
online systems.
• The soft (electronic) form of assignment/project shall be prepared in MS word document
(.docx extension) with typing using TIMES NEW ROMAN, 12 font size, 1.5 spacing. The
equations shall be typed using EQUATION EDITOR built in MS word. The details and
templates shall be provided.
• The topics of Assignment/Project shall be sent to the class by email.

TEACHING & EVALUATION METHODOLOGY:


• English shall be the language of instructions; however, shy or scrawny students shall be
allowed to communicate in Urdu. Each lecture shall be of 1.5 hours.
• Audio video aids like Computer(s), Multimedia and White Board shall be used as teaching
tools.
STUDENT’S EVALUATION (GRADING):
The course shall be evaluated out of 100 Marks as per following division:

4 Quizes (9%),4 Assignments (6%), 1 Presentation/Project (10%): 25 Marks
Mid Term Examinations: 25 Marks
End Term Examination: 50 Marks

To understand the non-classical aspects of Physics, the emphasis is on the applications of Quantum
Physics in microscopic-scale Physics, atomic and molecular structure and processes

Black Body Radiations, Wien’s formula, Rayleigh-Jeans formula, three interrelated properties of
cavity radiation: Spectral radiancy, The Wien Displacement Law, The Stefan-Boltzmann Law, Plank
Radiation Law, Comparison of energy distribution curves based on Wien, Rayleigh-Jeans and Plank
formulae, Quantization of energy, Photoelectric effect, Compton Effect, Line spectra.
Wace-Particle Duality:
Wave behavior of Particles, de-Broglie Hypothesis, Testing de-Broglie hypothesis, Waves, Wave
Packets and Particles, Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, The correspondence principle,
Complementarity Principle.
Quantum Mechanics in One Dimension:
The concept of a wave function, Postulates of Quantum mechanics, Operators in Quantum
mechanics, Values of different operators, Linear operator, Eigen value equation, Commuting
operators, Time independent Schrödinger wave equation, Time dependent Schrödinger wave
equation, Schrödinger wave equation for a free particle, Separation of one dimensional wave equation
into time dependent and time independent parts, Particle in one dimensional box, Solution of
Schrödinger wave equation for a free particle, Barrier tunneling, Step potential (E>V0), Step potential
