Day/Date
Learning Objectives:
 After Students and Teacher watch the video of Sach Test, students can prove the products that produced while
photosynthesis process.
 After Students and Teacher watch the video and discuss, students are be able to analyze the differences and
similarities of photosynthesis and respiration.

I. Tools and materials

1. Aluminum foil
2. Paper clips
3. Beaker glass
4. Test tube
5. Scissor
6. Bunsen
7. Tripod
8. Alcohol
9. Iodine
10. Leafy plants in pots

II. Prosedures Steps :

1. Put the leafy plants in the dark around 2 - 3 days.

2. After that choose a leaf width, cover some leaf surface with aluminum foil. Use clip to
pinch it.
3. Place the pot in a spot that is exposed to direct sunlight for about 5 hours.
4. Complete the leaf that has been covered with the aluminum foil and do the test with
lugol.
5. How to do the starch / lugol test:
 Boil the leaves in boiling water for a few minutes until withered
 Boil the leaves in hot alcohol to dissolve the chlorophyll (see figure)
 Wash leaves under running water
 Drop leaves with lugol / iodine solution and observe the color change. Look the
picture below:

Step 4
The results of the Test Sach experiment to prove the photosynthesis resulted in the starch
After you do this iodine test the result is roughly like this:

"The results of the starch test: a leaf that has been spilled iodine solution"

Left: only the chlorophyll part that carries photosynthesis and produces the starch. Right: the
non-chlorophyll part does not carry photosynthesis so that no starch is formed.
Photosynthesis produces starch

Left: blackish-black color contains a lot of starch. Right: pale brown color does not contain
starc
Fill part III &IV during breakoutroom start by using share screen features. Choose
only one secretary and another member will mention the idea.

III. Discussion

1. Why part of the leaf is covered with a piece of aluminium foil?

2.  Why was the plant left in the sun?

3. What happens when the leaf is tested for the presence of starch?

4.  Explain why a part of the leaf covered by the foil will not show the presence of
starch?

5. Why the leave should boil in hot alcohol?

6. How does this experiment support the idea that sunlight is needed for
photosynthesis?

7. What plants do at night?

IV. Conclusion
