1.

 Create a Bed
Open SketchUp and save as new file Hands-on_Fit for a Master.skp.
We are going to create a bed similar to the style of the couch that your client approved.
First, start by drawing a rectangle the size of a matrimonial bed - 1.80 x 2.10 meters.
Then offset 0.10 m from each of the two shorter sides of the rectangle to serve as the
base of the headboard and the footboard of the bed. Group the three rectangles
individually.

2. Extrude the parts

Go inside each group and extrude as follows: the headboard to a height of 0.75m,
the footboard to a height of 0.30m, and the largest rectangle or the box spring to a
height of 0.15m.
3. Create the “legs” of the bed
Move everything 0.10 m up to give space for the legs.
Next, make a box the size of 0.10 x 0.10 x 0.10 m, and turn it into a component. Color the
component 0136_Charcoal under the Colors-Named selection of the Material Browser.
Make four copies of the component, and place each copy at the corners of the box spring
at 30mm from the edges.

4. Ma ke the base for a

tufted bed
Go inside the headboard group, and divide it to squares the size of 0.15 x 0.15 m above
the box spring. This should give you twelve (12) columns and four (4) rows of squares.
Go inside the footboard group, and divide it to squares the size of 0.10 x 0.10 m. This
should give you 18 columns and three (3) rows of squares.
Go inside the box spring group, and divide the side into nine (9) equal parts.
5. Make a tufted headboard
Go inside the headboard group, and draw circles (for buttons) of 10mm radius at the
intersections except at the edges. Delete the lines inside the circles.

Use the Soap Skin Bubble Plug-in at the corner with the following parameters:
   Divisions: 20
Pressure: +800 if white face is showing
-800 if gray face is showing
Soften the edges to hide unnecessary lines. Make sure to check Soften Coplanar in the
Soften Edges dialog box. Lastly, reverse the face IF the gray part is facing outward.
Turn the corner group into a component, and copy it to the three (3) other corners. Rotate
the component using the Move Tool or Rotate Tool to match the location of the button.

Do the same for the squares along the edges and those at the center. Remember to turn
these two other types into components also.
6. Create the buttons
Double click one of the circles, and make it into a component. Go inside the component and
extrude it5mm outward. Offset an inner circle at 2mm. Select the inner circle, and move
it 3mm outward using the Move Tool and directional buttons to lock to the appropriate
axis.
The end result is a tapering button. Soften edges, and copy at the appropriate positions.
7. Tuft the sides
Go inside the headboard group, and draw a rectangle of size 0.10 x 0.15 m at the top of the
headboard. Make it into a component. Use the Soap Skin Bubble Plug-in on this object
with the following parameters:
   Divisions: 15
   Pressure: 600 outward

Copy the finished component all around the headboard’s sides, including the bottom.
Do the same on the box spring’s rectangles with the following parameters:
   Divisions: 20
   Pressure: 600 outward
8. Do the footboard
Either repeat the same process for the footboard, or scale the components of the
headboard to fit the squares of the footboard.
Use the same parameters.
For the front face of the footboard:
   Divisions: 20   Pressure: 800 outward
For the top, sides, and bottom of the footboard:
   Divisions: 15   Pressure: 600 outward

9. Model the mattress

Draw a rectangle slightly shorter in width than the box spring. The dimensions are 1.76
width by 0.15m height. Using the Fillet tool of 1001-bit Plug-in, fillet the corners to
a radius of 20mm.
Group the rounded rectangle, and then extrude it to a length slightly shorter than the box
spring at 1.87m. Place the mattress above the box spring, on center crosswise, and 10mm
from the footboard.
Soften the edges, and color the component 0131_Silver under the Colors-Named Selection
of the Material browser.
10. Add a blanket
Draw a rectangle slightly longer in width and height than the mattress with dimensions
of 1.82 x 0.20.
Using the Fillet tool of 1001-bit Plug-in, fillet the upper corners to a radius of 20mm.
Offset the shape20mm outward, and then erase the other parts, retaining only the top and
sides of the, curve

Color this 0135_DarkGray under the Colors-Named Selection of the Material browser, and

extrude to a length of 1.08m.
After extruding, color the thickness 0129_WhiteSmoke under the Colors-Named Selection
of the Material browse, and extrude again while holding the Ctrl button to a length
of 0.20m. Soften edges and make into a group.

Place the blanket above the mattress. The gray end should be 0.1m from the footboard.
11. Soften the blanket more
Go inside the blanket group. While inside the group, choose View in the menu bar
under Face Style and Wireframe. This will let you see only the lines and not the faces of
the group.
Select all the lines, right click, and then choose Hide.
Revert the Face Style to Shaded with Textures.

12. Make Pillows
Draw a rectangle the size of a queen pillow, approximately 0.5 x 0.75m, and make into a
group. Use this as a guide to draw arcs with a bulge of 0.03m at the lengths and arcs with
a bulge of 0.01m at the shorter sides. Erase the straight lines after.

Use the shape to make pillow with the Soap Skin Bubble Plug-in using the following
parameters:
   Divisions: 30
   Pressure: 500 outward
Mirror the object to itself to form a pillow, and make it into a component. Color the
component 0135_DarkGray.

Copy the component and scale to 0.85. Color this medium pillow 0129_WhiteSmoke.
Scale the medium pillow again to 0.50, and color this 0046_Gold or any other color you
would like to use as accent color for the other furniture and the bedroom.

Make two (2) copies of each type of pillow,  and arrange them on the bed. Rotate and tilt
some of them a bit to avoid a very stiff look.
