How to Ski

Skiing is a sport everyone can try. Skiing comes in many different levels, there are
experts, freestylers, or those just looking for leisure activity. Skiing is easy for people of all ages
to learn. Some may think skiing is difficult and too late to learn, but here are some easy steps to
make sure anyone can take on the mountain with ease.

Before one can even think about tackling the slopes, one must be properly dressed. A
skier must be ready to face the cold and the conditions that come with it for hours on end. I
recommended bundling up in a winter jacket, some long underwear or leggings, comfy socks,
layered shirts, gloves, and the most important of them all, a helmet. When it comes to finding
the proper boots for skiing, make sure the boot is snug and will not allow your feet to move
around within the boot. Next, find the proper ski size, it is recommended that the skis should be
up to your chin when holding them upright. Try to make yourself as warm as possible because it
will take some time to learn the basics of skiing.

Now that you are all bundled up, it is time to take on the mountain. First, put your skis
parallel to the slope, this way when you click in, you will not be facing downhill. To attach your
boots to your skis insert your toe first then stomp with your heel until you hear a click. Once you
have done that you are ready for the basics. It is very important to know that your skis cannot
touch. If they touch you will be rolling down the mountain. I recommend starting off doing S-
turns until you get the hang of it and are ready to go downhill. To go straight, make the skis
parallel to each other so they resemble french fries. To slow down or stop you want to kick your
heels out and point your toes together making a wedge or resembling a pizza slice. To turn,
push one ski out farther than the other, this will allow you to turn with ease. For example, if you
want to turn left, push out your right ski and vice versa. Try to practice your turns down the
slope, it will help you maintain your speed and allow you to learn faster. When starting, try to
stay on the bunny slopes, then, as you develop more skill, you can proceed on to the more
challenging slopes.

Remembering the steps to skiing is very important. Skiing can be very dangerous if not
taken seriously, you can be a threat to yourself or others. Each step of the skiing process is
important, from the clothes you wear to the understanding of the mountain. By following these
steps, one will be able to make the best out of their skiing experience and enjoy a sport that will
last a lifetime.
