Assessments 3: Mock Job Interviews (40% in total)

You will need to attend two job interviews, an individual interview and a group interview in
Week 7 and Week 11 respectively. Your performance as an interviewee will be assessed
according to the criteria listed on the assessment sheet.

Assessed module: Module 1

Aims:
1. To apply impromptu speaking skills, organize ideas and develop a view within a limited
time
2. To give you an opportunity to demonstrate and refine the skills needed for panel and group
interviews

Procedures:
Part 1: Individual Interview (25%)
The individual interview assessment will be a one-on-one video job interview on Zoom where
only the interviewer and the interviewee will be present. Each student will be interviewed by
the teacher for about 5 minutes. It simulates a typical job interview that involves general
interview procedures discussed in class. As a candidate, you will have to answer some general
interview questions prepared by the panel. These questions may include:

 A compulsory question: Tell me something about yourself? / Could you please introduce
yourself? (Your answer should last about 40-50 seconds)
 A few questions about the candidate’s resume e.g. education background, work
experience, skills or awards, personal qualities or job-related issues
 After asking the candidate one or two general questions, the teacher may ask some
questions which are tailored according to the job requirements, the candidate’s skills and
experience levels. If answers seem to be thin on detail, the teacher may ask follow-up
questions.
 At the end of the interview, you have to ask the interviewer a question.

Preparation

 Choose a job advertisement from an online job board or company website.

 Prepare a resume tailored for this job advertisement and indicate the position being
applied for on the resume by attaching a copy of the job description that you found
online.
 Submit this set of resume and job advertisement to your teacher at least THREE full
business days before the date of the interview.
 Make sure that you have researched the company carefully and that you have thought
about the kinds of questions that you might be asked. Prepare carefully, but do not
memorize model answers. This approach will not convince the interviewers.
 A few days before the interview, do a technical trial run to make sure your equipment is
working correctly. Avoid using a smartphone for this video interview if possible.
