Instructor mindset:

o NOT taught to the lowest common denominator. This is a skill builder and
students must have at least a Defensive Rifle level skill to build on.
o Be on the range and shooting as efficiently as possible.
o Crawl, Walk, Run method on the range.
o All drills demonstrated with speed and accuracy (do as I do) .
o Enforce accuracy with speed, tape misses, keep targets clean, and change them
out as needed.

1. 0830: Check In, Welcome, and Area Familiarization

a. Welcome students and discuss what the Sig Academy has to offer and cover the physical
layout. Point out the location of bathrooms and the coffee/water locations. Briefly
mention the pro shop and the associated discounts available to students.
b. Briefly describe the course and give an overview of topics covered. Discuss what the
course will cover and will not cover. Discuss who the course is intended for.
c. Let students know where they can find their lunches if they were ordered at the pro
shop. For weekend classes, hand out coupons to local restaurants as needed.
d. Monday - Friday
i. Ensure students have checked into the pro shop and have received all course
materials.
ii. If a student arrives to class and isn’t on the roster, send them to the Pro Shop.

e. Weekends
i. Pass around the roster and ensure students sign in
ii. If there is yellow next to a student’s name, instructors must check for a
Concealed Carry Permit of Law Enforcement credentials. Make sure their ID or
credentials haven’t expired. Take a photo of their Concealed Carry Permit or
Law Enforcement credentials and email Emily (Emily.Cole@sigsauer.com).
1. If they don’t have a Concealed Carry Permit or Law Enforcement
credentials, have them fill out an affidavit. Affidavits will be in the
box/folder prepared by the office staff or are available in the Pro Shop.
Once filled out, send them to the pro shop to have the affidavit
notarized. Pro Shop employees can notarize the affidavit. Do not allow
the student to continue the course without verifying their affidavit was
notarized.
2. If the affidavit is unable to be notarized for any reason, ask the student
for proof of paid background check. The receipt will suffice to begin
training. See example.
iii. If a student arrives in class and isn’t on the roster, this isn’t a problem.
Sometimes late registrations don’t show up on the roster. However, if this
occurs, email Concealed Carry Permit, Law Enforcement credentials, or have
them fill out an affidavit (see #1 above)

progression to achieve these training goals.

ii. During the holster, make sure to de-cock and safe if they have
them before moving to the holster. Reiterate “check finger,
check status, check holster, then holster”
iii. Conduct drills until you are comfortable with student’s ability to
perform the draw and holster safely.
b. Talk through and demonstrate how to transition to pistol, check rile,
holster and reload or clear malfunction in the rifle.

Suicide Drill (30 rounds)
a. The purpose of this drill is to make sure students have good self-management.
b. Set up two lanes (or three if the range allows) with cones at the 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, and 25m
lines.
c. Set up one Doug target in front of each lane d. Demonstrate drill first and the talking points
with each drill
e. On the timer, run from the target to the 5m line, turn and fire five rounds center mass
f. Run to the target, touch the target, and run to the 10m line and fire four rounds center mass
g. Run to the target, touch the target, run to the 15m line and fire three rounds center mass
h. Run to the target, touch the target, run to the 20m line and fire two rounds center mass
i. Run to the target, touch the target, run to the 25m line and fire one round to the face
j. Misses are +5 seconds.
k. Mark and track raw time + misses for a total score
l. Goal is 45 seconds slick, 60 seconds with full kit for LE/MIL m. Repeat a second time to try
and beat scores
n. Discussion points: This drill checks PT, accuracy, efficient movement, efficient mounting of
the gun, and self-management. Self-management is the key to success. Initially at the 5m line the student
is close to the target and fresh. The student should be shooting quickly. As the student gets further into the
drill, his physical state will change and the distance changes as well. They should take the time they need
at each station to get good hits.

Hunt Evaluation (20 Rounds)

a. Inform students that they will take an evaluation designed to test their ability to get into and out
of positions quickly
b. The hit zone is the 8” circle on the Doug target
c. The drill is shot at the 100m, 75m, 50m, and 25m
d. Only time 2 students at a time so they can hear the par time
e. Do not talk through the talking points related to the drill, this is meant to be an evaluation done
cold.
f. Have students line up on the 100m line. On the timer and from a standing position, students
will drop down to the prone position and fire five rounds. Par time is 8 seconds. Students cannot fire after
the par time
g. Have students move to the 75m line. On the timer and from a standing position, students will
drop into a seated position and fire five rounds. Par time is 14 seconds. Students cannot fire after par time.
h. Have students line up on the 50m line. On the timer and from a standing position, students will
drop into a kneeling position and fire five rounds. Par time is 11 seconds. Students cannot fire after the
par time.
i. Have students line up on the 25m line. On the timer, students will fire 5 rounds from a standing
position. The par time is 5 seconds. Students cannot fire after the par time.
j. Place rifle on safe and mark/paste targets. Have students write their score (number of good hits
out of 20) in the upper corner of the target.
k. Discussion points: Remember the kneeling and seated positions from defensive rifle. Students
should develop a “go to” kneeling and seated position that they can always quickly get into. This position
should provide maximum stability and accuracy.
