“The Principal/VIP
must be protected
from  all threats” 
PRINCIPLES OF
PROTECTION
 Protected from all threats, hazards and embarrassment
 Protection must not necessarily interfere with the freedom of the
Principal/VIP.

 The privacy of the Principal/VIP must always be respected.

 Protection must not cause the Principal/VIP embarrassment or


require to apologize for his security detail.

 Protection must not necessarily interfere with the official duties of


the principal/VIP and their staff.

 A protection unit has the responsibility to Anticipate, Recognize,


Neutralize

 The protection unit does not stand and fight, take revenge or unduly
expose the principal/VIP to dangerous situations.

 In case of an attack, it is the responsibility of the security detail to:

 Shout – direction of attack, type of weapon.

 Cover – shield the VIP.

 Evacuate – away from the threat.

DEFINITION OF TERMS IN VIP
PROTECTION
•ADVANCE SURVEY - Inspection of each area of responsibility where the  VIP’S engagement 

•ADVANCEMAN - Individual assigned the responsibility for coordinating and  affecting all security requirements. 

•ADVANCE TEAM - One or more advance agents headed by a lead advance  agent. 

•AGENT - IN – CHARGE - Responsible for the operation of the protective  detail.  

•PILOT CAR – Usually marked police vehicle 

•CLASSIFIED MATTERS - information or material in any form or nature,  the safeguarding of which is necessary to the interest of
national  security. 

•CLASSIFY - assigning of the four security classification categories COMMAND POST – Centralized which recieves all information and
gathering 
COMPARTMENTALIZATION - grant of access to classified matter only to  properly cleared person such
classified document or information is  required in the performance of their official duties. 
COMPROMISE - Breach of security wherein unauthorized person obtained  knowledge of classified
matter. 
COMMUNICATION SECURITY - Measures to deny unauthorized persons  information of value, derived
from possession and study of  telecommunications or to mislead unauthorized persons in their 
interpretation. 
DAMAGE TO NATIONAL SECURITY - Prejudice, embarrassment or injury to  the republic resulting from
any act or omission. 
DECLASSIFY - removal of the security classification. 
DOCUMENT - any recorded information regardless of its physical form or  characteristics. 
FOLLOW CAR - A security vehicle driven behind the protectee’s car 
HOLDING ROOM - A secure area site, usually a private room set aside for  the protectee’s convenience
and privacy. 
LEAD CAR - Travels’ directly infront of the protectee vehicle LIMO - Protectees ride 
MOTORCADE - Formally organized group of motor vehicles travelling along a  specified route in a
controlled manner. 
SECURITY CLEARANCE - an administrative determination from a security  standpoint that an individual
is eligible for access to classified matters. 
SECURITY OFFICER - properly trained and cleared individual who assists  the chief of office in discharging
the responsibilities of safeguarding  classified documents, materials and protectee.

Assassination - The greatest risk of assassination to the principal is when in  transit from one area to another and the
most predictable route poses the  greatest risk for assassination of the principal (usually residence to office).

e. Psychological causes  
Sabotage - Act of destruction of property or obstruction of public service. 
Subversion - A clandestine or covert action to undermine a regime or seeks  to overthrow a constituted government.
