My brother’s flat
My brother is an officer. His name is Farid. He is a major and he is a battalion commander. My
brother has got his flat just this month. His flat is in Azizbayov street. İt is one of the new streets
of our city.
This street is rather far from the National Academy of Sciences. İt is near the shore of the
Caspian Sea.
Farid is not single. He is married. His wife’s name is Sevda. They have got two children: a boy
and a girl. The boy is six, but the girl is four.
My brother’s flat is large. When you enter his flat, you can see three rooms in it: a dining room,
a bedroom and a study. There is also a bathroom and a kitchen in his flat.
The walls of his dining room are green. The curtains on the windows are white. There is a new
carpet on the floor which we have just bought. The sofa and the arm-chairs are in the corner of
the room. The furniture is new. My brother’s flat is very comfortable.
I like to spend my free time at my brother’s. I usually go to see them on Sundays when I am on
leave.

döşəmənin üstündədir. Divan və kreslo otağın küncündədir. Mebel yenidir. Qardaşımın mənzili
çox rahatdır.

7. Shopping
We are on holiday now. I am at home. My little daughter comes to me and asks:”My dear
father, will you go shopping with us? We are going to buy something for the birthday party. You
have not forgotten that on the 25th of April we‘ll celebrate my birthday and I’ll call many of my
friends to my birthday party.”
At first we go to the department store. Here you can buy everything: shoes, toys, clothes,
dresses, trousers, shirts, skirts and so on. My daughter wants T-shirt and jeans for her birthday
party. We ask the shop-assistant:
-Show us those T-shirts, please.
-What size and what colour do you wish?
-What about green?
-Here you are.
-Let us try it on.
-Certainly. Over there, the fitting room (changing room), please.
-I think it’s too big for her. Have you got them in a smaller size?
-How about this one?
-I think that’s better. And how much is it?
Translation:
Biz indi bayramdayıq. Mən evdəyəm. Mənim balaca qızım gəlir və mənə deyir: “Əziz atam, sən
bizlə mağazaya gedəcəksən? Biz doğum günü üçün bəzi şeyləri almağa gedirik. Sən

8. At table
1. While you are eating you should hold your knife firmly in one hand and your fork firmly in the
other. Cut with the knife. Push the food into your mouth with your fork, never with your knife.
2. Do not put your arms and elbows on the table while you are eating.
3. Chew your food very slowly. Keep your mouth closed while you are chewing. Never speak
while you have food in your mouth.
4. Do not put too much food in your mouth at one time. Take small bites only.
5. Drink slowly from your glass or cup. When drinking from a teacup, you should lift the cup
with one hand and lift the saucer underneath with the other. Always drink silently, even if you
are drinking from a large mug of tea or coffee.
6. When you have finished eating, wipe your mouth your napkin and place it nearly on the
table. Push your knife and fork together on the plate. Do not put them on the tablecloth.
7. Never lick your knife.

1.Yemək yeyəndə bir əlində bıçağı, digər əlində çəngəli möhkəm saxlamalısan. Bıçaq ilə kəs.
Yeməyi ağzına çəngəllə qoy, heç vaxt bıçaqla qoyma.
2. Yemək yeyəndə qol və dirsəklərini masanın üstünə qoyma.
3. Yeməyi çox yavaş çeynə. Çeynəyəndə ağzını bağlı saxla. Yemək ağzında olarkən heç vaxt
danışma.
4. Bir dəfəyə ağzına çox yemək qoyma. Yalnız azacıq dişlə.

6. Yeməyi qurtarandan sonra, ağzını və masanın yaxın yerlərini salfetlə sil. Bıçaq və çəngəli
birlikdə boşqabın içinə qoy. Onları süfrənın üstünə qoyma.
7. Heç vaxt bıçaqı yalama.

9. English wedding
We are at an English wedding-party. The guests are standing on the steps outside the church.
The bride is wearing a long white dress and holding some flowers in her left hand.
The groom is wearing a traditional morning suit and is holding a top hat in his right hand.
They’re both smiling because they’re very happy.
İn a few minutes, they’re going to get into a Rolls-Royce and drive to a big hotel for the
reception. At the reception they’re going to cut the cake and drink champagne. Then they are
going to open all their presents.
Some people are going to make speeches and both of the mothers are going to cry.
At three o’clock they’re going to leave the reception and drive to Heathrow Airport. They’re
going to fly to Bermuda. They’re going to spend their honeymoon in a villa by the sea. They’re
going to be happy for ever and ever and have a lot of children.

I walk up to a policeman in Nizami street in Baku.
-Excuse me, I’m a stranger here myself.l
Policeman: -Yes, can I help you?
-Can you tell me the way to the Opera House, please?
-Yes. İf you turn left- go along that street over there- until you get to the end, you’ll see the
National Library. But the Opera House is on the right- hand side.
-Excuse me, where is the nearest bank, please?
-Go over the first set of traffic lights, and turn left at the second.
-Thank you very much. İt was very kind of you.
-You’re welcome.
Translation:
Bakının Nizami küçəsində bir polisə yaxınlaşdım.
-Bağışlayın, mən burada qəribəm.
Polis:-Bəli, sizə kömək edə bilərəm?
