Question: As a Manager how would you foster a good industrial
relations?

Answer:
As a manager it’s a real challenge to motivate employees to do better in their job in
hopes of retaining good talent for the company. In order to do this, human resource
workers need to pay attention to fostering positive employee relationships. So there
are some process that should be followed to guide employee as a good industrial
relations.

Communicate Responsibly

Employees want to know what is going on within a company. They are busy with
the day to day activities that go on and many times, they lose sight of what is going
on from a higher up standpoint. As a human resource representative, it is important
that you connect with employees to let them know what is going on. This might
mean recent developments in the company, new benefits, new staff members, etc.

Interaction from Upper Management

It is important to encourage upper management to connect with all of the

employees, even those that are entry level. You can connect with employees as
much as you want, but it is very important to employees that the higher-ups of the
company take a minute to introduce themselves, shake hands, ask how someone is
doing or focus on the day to day activities and duties within the company.

Provide Educational Opportunities

Whenever a new training opportunity comes along, or the opportunity comes up
where an employee can learn more or further develop their skills within a
company, this connection should be made. You can develop a trusting relationship
with an employee by showing them you care about their knowledge base and their
job security. These educational opportunities can take place on site in the human
resources department or you can provide off-site training. Let your employees
suggest what they want to learn and see if you can make those opportunities
available for them.
Provide Opportunities for Self-Management
When you allow employees the opportunity to manage themselves and control
their own day to day activities, this shows that you care about them and you trust
them. This develops a good relationship between you and your employees. You
may also give out the responsibility of managing other people or training other
people.

Give Employees a Voice

There are always things that bother someone about a company whether it be
something that goes on during the work day or it could be something like company
benefits. It is important to let employees have a voice and make sure they know
they are heard. This makes them feel trusted, and as though they are a valuable
asset.
As a human resource worker, one of your main responsibilities is making sure that
your employees feel comfortable where they are and that they are trusted and
appreciated. You can accomplish this a number of ways to foster positive
employee relationships. This will lead to success for you as a professional but also
success within the company as well.
