Balance
Balance in design is similar to balance in physics A large shape close to the center can be
balanced by a small shape close to the edge. A large light toned shape will be balanced by
a small dark toned shape (the darker the shape the heavier it appears to be)

Types of Balance

principal of unity.eg. a painting with an active aggressive subject would work better with a
dominant oblique direction, course, rough texture, angular lines etc. whereas a quiet
passive subject would benefit from horizontal lines, soft texture and less tonal contrast.
Unity in a painting also refers to the visual linking of various elements of the work.

Ways to attract people to read text

1. Main headline
This will be the largest piece of text and the first to be read. Keep it
short and to the point. You should be able to do this in fewer than

7 words.
2. Stand first
This is the second piece of information people will read and is used
to explain the main headline. It can be longer than the headline
and introduces the reader to the subject. Use a smaller point size
than for main headlines, but not bigger than for subheads.

3. Subheads and crossheads

These are useful to break up blocks of text by introducing new
sections. They make the page appear less intimidating and off
putting to a potential reader.

4. Body copy
This is the text containing the main bulk of information.

Lamination
What is lamination?
Lamination is the process of placing something between layers of plastic and gluing them with heat and/or
pressure. When you look at perhaps some business cards, or some company brochures or profiles, you
would normally find the front and back covers laminated. This creates a sort of tear-proof and waterproof
surface. Laminating film encapsulates the item completely by being bonded to both its sides.

Basic Types of Lamination

1. Gloss Lamination 2. Matte Lamination
