Asynchronous Day
● On Wednesday this week (12/9) we will not meet for a zoom

Unit 3 Project
● Unit 3 (How do families affect us?) will be ending when the
first semester ends (1/25/2...after break!) La Unidad 3

● This project will count as your final exam grade Este

Unit 3 Project
● We will be using Powerpoint/Google Slides to create this project

● The project will include parts of your writing, pictures, an
interview with a family member, and a recording of your voice El

● We will start working on the project today by choosing a piece of
your writing to use and by setting some goals Comenzaremos a

● Throughout this unit we have had a lot of “Time to Write”
● We have been writing about different family stories
● Take some time to go back through all of the different memories and
topics you have written about in the past few weeks
● Do any of these stand out to you? Which one is your favorite? What
memory could you add more details to?
● Remember, part of your digital story will be interviewing a family
member, so choose a family memory that you could interview a family
member about!
● Type in the chat “Done” when you have chosen one of your writing
drafts to work with
Project Goals
● Use either the PDF in Schoology or the Word document, whichever
you prefer
● I will go over the different levels of Speaking and Writing
● Highlight in yellow what level you think you are at right now in
speaking and writing
● Highlight in green the level you would like to be at the end of the
semester (after completing the Unit 3 Project)
● At the end of the semester we will reflect on whether you reached
your goals.
Simple and Compound Sentences
● What is a simple sentence?
○ A sentence with one subject and one predicate
○ Ex: Joe waited for the bus.
○ Ex: Mary ate cake.
● What is a compound sentence?
○ A sentence that contains 2 simple sentences (independent clauses)
connected by a coordinating conjunction
○ Ex: Joe waited for the bus, but the bus was late.
○ Ex: Mary ate cake, so her stomach hurt before bed.
● So, how can 2 independent sentences become a complex sentence?
○ Add a comma
○ Add a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS)

● F- for
● A- and
● N- nor
● B- but
● O- or
● Y- yet
● S- so
How can we turn these simple sentences into
compound sentences?

compound sentence? (by adding a comma and FANBOYS)
● Add two compound sentences to your paragraph
○ Either combine 2 simple sentences with a comma and coordinating
conjunction
○ Or add two new compound sentences to your writing draft!
○ After you are done you should turn in your updated paragraph on
Schoology (Draft 1- Compound Sentences)
Breakout Rooms
● In your breakout rooms, look over what you turned in on our
Asynchronous day (Wednesday, 12/9)
● You should have watched Ms. Ross’ example Unit Project
● You should have written down a list of 5 things you liked about it that you
want to include in your project
● In your breakout rooms, tell your classmates what you saw, and write
down anything your classmate says that you would also want to include in
your final project!
