20min R+R - Independent Reading Time for
20 mins
- “Read and Relaxation”
5min Quick Write: Write about a time - Write for 5 minutes straight
you had plans and they changed - Can be written in a document or
or went wrong. their notebook
- Teacher models this by writing
with them
10 min Class Discussion - After the quick write time is
over, I will share with the
students what I wrote about
during my 5 mins. Students will
then be able to volunteer and tell
me what they wrote about in
their writing time.
- After this discussion I will
reframe this question and
connect it back to how Lennie
and George’s plans do not go as
they think in the novella we are
reading (​Of Mice and Men​)
20 Book Club #1 - Students will be put into
breakout rooms of 3 or 4
students
- This will be their new “home
teams”
- Students will have a 15-20
minute discussion on chapters 1
and 2 of the novella, using their
prep work for guidance
- Students will become used to
this process because their book
club will meet two more times
for this novella
10 Participation Google Form - I will walk students through how
to complete a google form, rating
their book club member’s
participation on a scale of 1-3

15 Recap of Book Club Discussions

book club to give me a short
recap of the main points or
