World Speech Day real life events will take place in 2021 wherever practical.

Over100
counties participate in WSD annually. However, given the ongoing difficulties posed by the
pandemic, we have decided to also launch a major virtual event to involve speakers and
organisation around the world. World Citizens all!

FAQS FOR WORLD SPEECH DAY LIVE 2021

1)What is World Speech Day Live 2021?


It is a virtual 36-hour, global speaking event for World Speech Day, 15 th March 2021, which
is a day to celebrate speeches and speech making through live public events across the
globe. See our website at www.worldspeechday.com

Speakers will be able to reach out to a truly global audience through WSD Live.

2)When will this event be held and how long is it going to be?
The event will be conducted across the globe virtually through 36 hours, starting at GMT+0
in New Zealand.

3)Who will be taking part in this World Speech Day Live?


Individuals, organisations and companies who have a cause to speak about. Speakers can
contribute individually; groups, such as debate teams, can participate collectively, with a
team slot; event organisers can choose to use WSD Live to broadcast their events either live
or by video recording.

4)Where can I find out more about World Speech Day Live 2021?
You can click onto https://worldspeechday.live. To find out more, simply click onto the
button ‘RSVP to our Zoom Info Sessions’ to sign up for any of the zoom sessions. In these
sessions, we will share details on the booking of speaking slots, registration, duration of

5)What is this year’s theme?

“Humanity at a Crossroads:” – participants are free to use this as a very broad base for a
speech, a springboard if you like. Discussions might address the numerous challenges facing
mankind after a tumultuous 2020 – to our natural environment, our way of life, and our
human relationships within communities. Through the power of speeches, we hope we can
share ideas on many levels (personal, local, national, global) that will help us address these
challenges, for a better world.

6)What topics can I speak about in this event?


You can talk about concerns and related to mankind, and speak how we as one humanity
can change the world to help improve quality of lives, create a new future for the poor and
disadvantaged. Speeches related to hate, violence, sex and race are not allowed.

7)How long do I need to speak for?


You have 3 to 5 minutes for each speech. You can either speak live or you can send in a
recording of your speech(es). Uploads can also be made to our WSD Dropbox at

8)How do I apply to join as speaker for World Speech Day Live 2021?
All you need to do is to click on ‘RSVP Speak’ button in https://worldspeechday.live to sign
up for one of our informational zoom sessions. We will share with you the details to how
register as a speaker and record your speech for the event.

9)I would like to get my event featured in World Speech Day Live . How can you help me?
We will be creating a booking form in https://worldspeechday.live website for event
organisers to book their schedule. We will indicate the timings available for their booking in
the form. You may also contact Simon directly to discuss a slot – at
simon@worldspeechday.com.

10)I have been given a slot for my event in Canada to be live-streamed from 1030am to
11am. I realise that there are about 5 speakers within the same time zone as mine who
are also speaking during that period assigned to my live streaming event. Will there be a
clash in schedule?
We can feature live events and recorded speeches at the same time to audiences in our
programme. We have more than one zoom room so that we can accommodate/avoid
clashes on the schedule.

12)Are there any out-of-bound areas that speakers should avoid covering in their
speeches?
Yes, speakers participating in World Speech Day Live 2021 are strongly encouraged not to
cover topics of the following nature:
a) content that is seditious in nature or/and politically sensitive.

b) sexually explicit content
c) content that encourages hate speech

13)Tell me more about World Speech Day?


It is a day to celebrate speech making and speeches delivered through live events. More
than 100n countries take part in World Speech Day annually. We believe in the power of
speeches to bring communities together and spread ideas. We believe in human progress
fired by new ideas, and that progress is never linear. Through speeches, we give expression
to unexpected voices.

14)What are unexpected voices?


They are voices of ordinary men and women who speak for a cause. They are also people
whose voices are so often, indeed too often, silent, waiting for someone to speak about
their concerns and needs.

15)When did World Speech Day begin and how has it grown?
World Speech Day started on 15 March 2016. A total of 35 countries took part. Today we
have 101 member countries participating.
