Managing Technology Introduction
Technology has been an innovation in
classrooms around the world, but it can be hard
to know where to start! This Lunch & Learn will
discuss easy ways to start implementing
technology in any type of classrooms. It doesn’t
matter if you have one solo computer in your
classroom or a laptop for each student, this
presentation is for you!
Facilitating Group
Activities
● Technology makes group activities
easier to manage and helps students
learn to research and collaborate.
● Google Slides/Prezi make it easy for
students to create full presentations
independently but still together.
● Both turning in and grading
assignments is made easier using
technology.

(Speaker Notes) Facilitating group activities is made easier by the use of technology.
Student can more easily research and collaborate on their own time while continuing
to function with their group members as a whole. There are many ways to implement
group activities while using technology. For instance, students can take turns using the
classroom computer to do research on their topic. Students can create full
presentations using free websites like Google Slides, or Prezi. Turning in assignments
as well as grading is also made easier for students and teachers. The best thing about
using technology in all classrooms is that it sets students up for success later in their
education when more and more of their assignments are done online.
Communicating Final Projects
● Having a classroom
website can make
assignments easy to
describe and assign.
● Teachers can post
instructions, rubrics, and
examples of work.
● Student’s have access to
all information, and do not
have to rely on their own
organization.

(Speaker Notes) Communicating Final Projects is very easy when using technology. A
great way to communicate all assignments is by having a classroom website. These
allow teachers to post assignments, rubrics, and examples of exemplary work.
Printing all assignment instructions out, especially for longer final projects, can be a
waste of paper, and an opportunity for students to lose their handouts. Having the
information all in one place, that students can go back to again and again is a great
way to have communication between students and teachers.
Conducting Research
● Online technology makes
researching so much easier
for all grade levels.
● Older students can use
online libraries like JSTOR or
ERIC.
● Younger students can find
great resources using
BrainPop or BrainPop Jr.

(Speaker Notes) Conducting research is one of the main things that technology has
really made easier. Students of all ages can research all types of topics. While using
books to research is still important, computers have really opened up a new world of
knowledge all at a student’s fingertips. Older students can find peer reviewed articles
from library databases, (JSTOR, ERIC) while younger students can use great websites
like BrainPop or BrainPop Jr. to find great information at a more accessible level.
Single computer
Classroom
● Reading comprehension can be
improved by allocating time
during the day to be used for
both independent reading and
AR comprehension or
vocabulary tests.
● Research for projects can be
done in pairs or independently
by taking turns or assigning
jobs.
● Multiple websites allow students
to have proficiency leveled Math
practice.

(Speaker Notes) Often teachers do not believe they have the proper set up to
implement technology in the classroom because they only have one computer in their
classroom. This is not true! Having only one computer for students to use just means
that time needs to be set aside for students to take turns. One great resource for reading
comprehension is Accelerated Reader or AR quizzes. The website most often used in
Renaissance.com which allows students from ages to access leved comprehension or
vocabulary quizzes for over 200,000 books. This website also keeps a record of
student scores and allows students to have their own individual accounts. With only
one computer in a classroom students can be given time for independent reading and
AR tests and practice their reading comprehension.

Students can also work on group projects by taking turns using the computer to
research their group topics. Student’s can be assigned jobs and time slots to use the
computer in the classroom. Like AR tests there are multiple websites where students
can have individualized math topics and assignments.
Multi-Computer
Classroom
Accelerated Reading tests
Math websites (iXL, Khan Academy)
Google Drive
Prezi
Online Libraries
Educational Websites (BrainPop)

(Speaker Notes) Adding computers to the classroom makes the previous slide’s activities more
accessible. Students can spend more time working their proficiency level activities or topics in
both math and reading comprehension. Students can also use computers in small groups to do
research together and can start using the computers inside the classroom to create
presentations.
HanD-Held Devices AND Tablets, iPads or laptops

- Having a device for each student in

the classroom allows teachers to
differentiate to specific proficiency
levels.
- Classroom wide learning games can
be played for test prep and topic
introductions/review. (Kahoot)
- Students can often work at their
own pace to complete assignments
and lessons.

(Speaker Notes) The more technology available in a classroom the more options you have.
When there is a handheld device for all students more educational games and lessons can be
utilized. Having a classroom full of technology allows teachers to fully differentiate lessons
for different proficiency levels, and allows students to work at their own pace. Individual
devices also allows teachers to create classroom wide games that can be used for test prep or
learning new topics. Kahoot is a classroom favorite where teachers can create multiple choice
questions to ask the entire class and take a poll of who said what. There are so many different
apps and websites that make learning fun!
Conclusion
Technology in the classroom is a wonderful asset that
should be implemented in every classroom! It doesn’t matter
if you only have one computer in the room there are
multiple ways to use resources, and technology sets
students up success. With the use of multiple websites and
different types of applications any teacher can bring their
classroom into the 21st century and provide students with
differentiated learning to fit any needs!
