Lesson 1 - The K-3 Learner in the Context of K-12: Who Are We Teaching?

Oral language is the foundation for literacy development.

Through their own speech children demonstrate their understanding of
the meanings of words and written materials. Children reared in families where
parents provide rich language and literacy support do better in school than
those who do not.
Panuca Elementary School Teachers provided a plan of activities and
checklist of the Pupils Developmental Behaviors where they can observe and
describe if the pupils are literate or not. They can also easily identify different
behavior of the pupils.

Lesson 2 - The Domains of Literacy: What Do We Teach?

There are five domains of Literacy reading, writing, listening, speaking,

and comprehension. It should be incorporated into daily class activities.
Teachers should take care to include opportunities to use all the five language
domains to enhance a student's learning and achievement in all areas.

The journey to literacy is a long, winding road. Educators do not stop in

teaching reading and writing, but they aim for a greater one — for the learners
and individuals to use everything that they know in a meaningful manner that can
mobilize our society. Teaching literacy is an important aspect of our lives as
learners, and being literate is a beneficial point of our society.

In this session Panuca Elementary School Teachers provide different

activities for their learners. Kindergarten Teachers provide videos for pupils to
easily recognize and memorize the alphabet and its sounds. They also provide
tracing activities and other materials in teaching. Primary Teachers use
different videos for reading and they also provide reading materials for every
pupil.
