Narrative Report

Rationale

Each of us probably has/her own idea or approach to education and how we can make children
learn. Regardless of the differences in our opinions, many of us would probably agree that the great art
of learning is to understand but little at a time.

We believe that every learner is unique in their strengths, interests, and areas for growth. We
strongly support engaging and meaningful learning opportunities that are responsive to learners’ needs.
Our learners have access to an abundance of information, resources, and people and these
opportunities require a diversity of skills and approaches.

Our school, Candaba Elementary School (CES) actively supports DepEd’s programs which focus
on capacitating teachers and instructional leaders on the basic knowledge and pedagogical skills in
literacy and numeracy and in establishing and managing a school-based mentoring/learning partnership
program as a mechanism for the continuous professional development of teachers.

CES also supports our department’s goal which is to produce holistically developed Filipinos who
are able to understand themselves, respect individual differences, and achieve academic success.

 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITY

“By working together, pooling our resources, and building on our strengths, we can accomplish great things. “

-Ronald Reagan

The five-day ln Service training ( INSET ) OF Candaba Elementary School ( CES ) was a truly meaningful activity.

It was held on February 6-10, 2023. The participants were the Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Relieving Teachers. A short program
was held every morning before the start of the seminar proper. Fervent prayers were offered for the success of the activity.
Teachers courageously showed reverence in singing the national anthem and patriotically showed reverence in nourishing
nuggets of wisdom that were shared by select teachers. The hearty words of welcome and message of our school principal, Sir
Renato Javier, truly gave an inspiration to all the participants doubled with the energizers which made everyone active throughout
the entire seminar.

For the DepEd’s Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program ( ELLN ), Ma’am Jennifer Sadie shared that ELLN
focuses on capacitating the K-Grade 3 Teachers and instructional leaders on the basic knowledge and pedagogical skills in
literacy and numeracy. She gave emphasis on its importance wherein obtaining these skills, can greatly promote success in
reading and writing in the future. Ma’am Regina Kabigting, a kindergarten teacher, shared her expertise which teachers can use in

their lessons. In enhancing early reading literacy skills, Ma’am Catalina Nucum imparted that she’s using the Marungko
Approach, CVC Pattern, and Basic Sight Words. A sample demonstration teaching on ‘Pagbuo ng Salita Gamit ang
Pinagsama-samang Pantig” was done by Ma’am Nicholyn Nucum, wherein literacy and numeracy instructions were
evident.

For the Reading Across Subject Areas for Better Academic Students’ Achievement ( RASA BASA )
sessions, this DepEd program was tackled by Sir Romer Pelayo regarding its introduction to the K-12 Curriculum
that reading will be explicitly integrated into all subject areas where necessary. Ma’am Marilou Sanguyo imparted
the following as RASA BASA’s relevance: it hastens better reading performance of learners across subjects and
grades and improves collaboration among teachers in solving learning difficulties of learners through varied
strategies and scaffolding techniques for instruction.

For the sessions on the Integration of Comprehensive Sexuality Education ( CSE ), Ma’am Gail Manio
thoroughly discussed the introduction of CSE in the K-12 Curriculum. She shared that CES is a curriculum-based
process of teaching and learning about the cognitive. Emotional. Physical. and social aspects of sexuality. She also
shared that this process aims to equip learners and young people with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that
will empower them to realize their health, well-being, and dignity. Ma’am, Lorna Padilla discussed the breakthrough
and integration of CSE in the curriculum. She shared that CSE enables individuals to exercise their sexual and
reproductive health rights and it contributes to gender equality by building awareness of the centrality and diversity
of gender in people’s lives.

Finally, the sessions on Homeroom Guidance ( HG ) Contextualization, and Localization in the K-12
curriculum were successfully discussed by the facilitators. Ma'am, Mailah Amurao refreshed the participants by
sharing the Legal Basis for the Implementation of the HG Program. She asked the participants about their
experiences in teaching Homeroom Guidance. The majority of them shared that HG is an important program that
deserves to be included in the curriculum. Ma’am Cristeta Pelayo discussed the importance of Localizing and
Contextualizing HG in the curriculum wherein it helps learners see how their studies are relevant to their lives; by
making them more engaged and motivated to learn. Doing so also helps them to make connections between different
subject areas, which can deepen their understanding of the material. For its benefits to teachers and learners, it was
discussed by Ma’am Grace Alonzo. Localizing HG lessons can make learning relevant; it enhances interest in the
long-term goals of education; and it helps both teachers and learners comprehend by relating and presenting a lesson
in the context of the prevailing local environment, culture, and resources.

On the last part of the five-day activity, all the participants wore a sweet and angelic smile while listening to Sir
Renato Javier’s words of gratitude and before parting ways, everybody joyfully sang various Capampangan Songs.
The activity ended on February 10 ( Friday ) at 5:12 PM.
