Hardware Description Introduction

1. Introduction
The MSO device is 18U in height, and mainly consists of the PDU, MTU, Layer 2 switch, gateway, core
router, firewall and switch control server. The overview of the MSO device is shown in the following
figure. Dimensions and weight of the units are described in the following table.

2.1 PDU
2.1.1 Introduction
The power distribution unit (PDU) powers the components in the MSO and provides protection against
lightning.

2.2 MTU
2.2.1 Introduction
In this system, the mobile station adopts the SELP2000 voice format, while the wired device, such as
MPT gateway, PSTN gateway and LDS, adopts the G.711 voice format. Therefore, if a call needs to be
established between the wireless terminal and wired terminal, voice format conversion is required. The
media translation unit (MTU) is responsible for such voice conversion in the MSO.

2.4 PSTN Gateway


The PSTN gateway adopts IPBX-X6. It interfaces the PSTN and the IP network, and is responsible for
conversion between FXO\FXS\E1 and VoIP SIP and conversion of media stream between the PSTN
bearer channel and the IP network.

The MPT gateway adopts the same devices used as the switch control server. For details, see 2.7.

2.9 SMS Gateway


It adopts MC52iT based on GSM GPRS network platform and capable of receiving and sending short
messages in Chinese and English.
