WEEK 2 : DESIGN PROCESS

Date of Discussion : 17TH JUNE 2020 (WEDNESAY)

Medium of Meeting : ZOOM
Attendance : All members present.
Main Problem Statement

Mesra Alam Sdn. Bhd. is the company that conducts rubbish cleaning services for housing area and
industry. They were appointed to carrying out clean-up namely grass cutting by the roadside around
Monthra city. However, there were a few problems causing this work to be stopped recently. Existing
grass machine usage causes cutting remnants to be scattered alongside the road. Apart from that, there
were instances during the cutting process where cars were damages due to flying debris (stones) hitting
the passing road users. Some cars were dented or chipped while others may have their windscreen
windows cracked. Manual street cleaner or mower are that currently in the market needs a lot more
workers operating individual machine to cover large area. Furthermore, the design can cause fatigues,
ergonomics problems and not user-friendly. Traditionally, using petrol as the main source of fuel for
the machine to operate will need high cost due to high oil consumption. Meanwhile, mini road cleaner
which uses a battery is less effective in term of operational and cost for the company to invest.

WEEK 3 : DESIGN CONCEPT SELECTION

Date of Discussion : 23RD JUNE 2020 (TUESDAY)

Medium of Meeting : ZOOM
Attendance : All members present.
There are three design is produced and only one is chosen based on the design concept selection
method. Below are the model of the selected concept design and its characteristics. The concept
selection method is using the Pugh Method analysis.

6
The characteristics is made based on several questions such as:

1. How does it operate

2. Size of area covered
3. Power source
4. Material of the blade
5. Special feature

Pugh Method is made based on 3 major important aspect which are general criteria, cutting blade
and brush sweeper.

7
Cutting blade aspects is very important and is rank by the cost. material of the blade, the quality of
the blade, the cutting ability and the durability of the blade

The brush sweeper is rank by the cost, the material of the brush, the quality of the brush, the
maintenance and durability of the brush sweeper. It is almost the same as cutting blade criteria

The design is chosen based on the criteria score for each Pugh Method of general criteria, cutting
blade and brush sweeper. The most score is chosen as the best concept design.

WEEK 4 : PDS AND MARKETING VIDEO

Date of Discussion : 1th JULY 2020 (WEDNESDAY)

Medium of Meeting : ZOOM
Attendance : All members present.
The Product Design Specification (PDS) and Marketing video should be produced. Several important
points have been discussed to be included in the video as below.

✓ The cost of the Product

✓ The important criteria of the Product
✓ The target market of the Product
✓ The name of the Product for commercial
✓ The tagline of the Product for commercial
✓ The mechanism of the product

Several strategies have been discussed so that we can produce the best video for commercial.

1. Make sure the Introduction stands out.

2. The Presentation of the video is creative and attractive.
3. The Mechanism is shown briefly.
4. Create a Stimulating Title.
5. Educate the Audience.
6. Make the Video More Atmospheric with Music.
7. Keep Them Short.

We have uploaded our PDS and Marketing video at YouTube to as a video survey.

9
The product design specification (PDS) is a document created during the problem definition activity
very early in the design process. It details the requirements that must be met in order for
the product or process to be successful. Below is our PDS report.

WEEK 5 : MARKETING VIDEO AND GOOGLE FORM

Date of Discussion : 7th JULY 2020 (TUESDAY)

Medium of Meeting : ZOOM
Attendance : All members present.
For this week task, we have to develop google form of the product criteria and distribute to at least
30 users.

We have discussed and learn how to create a google form through YouTube.

(link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtoOHhA3aPQ)

We have discussed several points that are suitable to be insert in the google form. The purpose of
creating google form is to gain some information about our designs and make some improvements on
several aspects.

WEEK 6 : ANALYSE DATA AND PREPARE TECHNICAL PAPER

Date of Discussion : 13th JULY 2020 (MONDAY)

Medium of Meeting : ZOOM
Attendance : All members present.
For this week, we have several activities that we have been discussed which are:
•Search for any existing journal that are related with analysis of lawn mower and sweeper. It should
be at least 15 journal paper including patent or other company product
• Discuss about any equation involve in analysing the product
• Discuss the process of Model the critical part in CAD software and run a simulation
• Identify the possible area that might create failure
• Discuss the product strength and weakness against previous product from a patent or other
company product
• Identify a potential journal in mechanical area
• Discuss about a technical paper of the product according to the selected journal template
There are 15 journal papers including patent search that we have searched. The lists are as below:
