Provide Multiple Means of Engagement
Foster collaboration and community:
http://udlguidelines.cast.org/engagement/effort-persistence/collaboration-
community

All students must be able to communicate and collaborate within a community of

learners. This is a goal for all students. Having mentoring through peers can really
help with the opportunities for one-one support. This kind of peer collaboration can
really help with sustained engagement. Flexible grouping allows for differentiation
and many roles and also provides opportunities for students to learn how to work
with each other. Strategies to help students build and use these kinds of skills
should be given. This can be done through: creating learning groups with clear
goals, roles, and responsibilities, creating school wide programs with positive
behaviour support in mind, give prompts that help learners know when and how to
ask peers/teachers for support, encourage things such as peer-tutoring, create
communities of students who have common interests (such as clubs), and create
expectations for group work.
