For my before and after assessment, I chose to do an inquiry project for my grade two/three
class. I have seen many of the assessments with the three faces of which two of them seem to
have negative connotations connected to them. I felt by changing the pictures in them has
made a significant difference. Even though it is a simple assessment, I would much prefer to
use the growing plant as opposed to the faces. It just seems much more positive to me. I
believe that children would rather see a sprout then a sad face, and it encourages them to grow
and blossom. I also changed the ending of the assessment from “One thing I need to work on”
to “One thing I would like to know more about”. Again, it just has a more positive tone.
