Readings in the Philippine History.

As a college student, I have already heard and studied facts about the constitutions
that the Philippines had. Below are the similarities and differences I have cited among the
1935, 1973, and 1987 constitutions.

Similarities

1. Article II sections 4 of the 3 constitutions impliedly mandate Filipinos for their important
responsibility to lend a military service for the country in times of need.

2. All of the Constitutions are set to put guidelines on Filipino Citizens’ action and to
emphasize their duties and responsibilities for the country.

3. All of the Article I of the 3 constitutions tackles the National Territory of the country in
which states the land, sea, and atmosphere where the rules of the country are still applicable
to.

4. All of the constitution vested Executive Powers to the President.

5. All of the constitutions start with a Preamble that encourages the one who reads it to
pledge honesty, loyalty, and patriotism to the country and of course for them to obey what is
clearly stated in the law and v=never to forsake the country they live in.
Differences

1. The 1935 Constitution alone has experienced a 4-year term of an elected president which
was amended to be a 6-year term later in that constitution and effective until now.

2. The 1987 constitution is the only one which truly restored democracy among Filipinos.

3. The 1987 constitution has also experienced the first woman to be the president of the
Philippines which happened to be the late Ms. Corazon Aquino.

4. 1973 and 1987 are the only ones with state policies on their Article II, and the 1987
constitution clarifies Philippines as both democratic and republican state while 1973 and
1935 constitution say that Philippines is a republican country alone.

5. in 1973 constitution, Congress was called the National Assembly and was allowed to have
as many members provided by law in which contrast to the Congress of 1935 in which
members must not exceed 24 and are chosen by the qualified electors of the country, and the
24-member of 1987 Congress which are elected by the qualified citizen of the Philippines.
