Course description

The course aims to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully deliver a
presentation. The course will look at how presentations are planned, structured and delivered. This will
include consideration of both linguistic and non-linguistic elements necessary for presentation success,
as well as evaluating the success of your presentation on your audience. You will, therefore, be expected
to present early on in the course and receive constructive criticism of your own and your peers’
presentations. This will be a very active and hand-on course with much leering and doing. At the same
time, you will be able to increase your awareness and learn more about yourself with a view to utilizing
this knowledge in several fields of life.

Assessment
Regular attendance, active participation in evaluating both you and your peers ‘presentations,
homework assignments including reflective papers and two different kind of presentations on a topic of
your choice.

Pair presentations
You will present an issue or a problem with your partner which you will have researched beforehand.
The presentation should be no longer than 8 minutes (4 minutes each).

Poster presentations
You will deliver a presentation individually, based on a visual representation of your topic ( approx. 10
mins). The presentation will take the form of a Q & A session, and it will be more flexible and
spontaneous in nature than a formal, structured presentation.

Reflective papers
You will write two short essays of no more than a page each, reflecting on your performance in the pair
as well as the poster presentation.

Peer-feedback
You will provide feedback on the performances of two of your peers (i.e., one for the pair presentations
and another for the poster presentations). Please choose a different person you wish to provide
feedback for and arrange this with one another beforehand.

Attendance policy

Students are expected to attend class regularly and on time. A maximum of 3 absences is allowed during
the course.
