Steam Flooding

Aim:
Our project topic is about explaining the process of steam flooding with
the help of CMG software. Steam flooding is the subdivision of thermal
flooding which is a enhanced oil recovery method for improving the
extraction of oil recovery.
Principal:
Steam flood, also known as steam drive, and other wells are used for oil
production. Two processes are at work in order to increase the volume
of oil extracted. The first is to heat the oil to higher temperatures and
thereby reduce its viscosity so that it flows through the formation more
easily into the producing wells. A second mechanism is a physical
displacement that uses oil to be forced into the production wells in a way
similar to water flooding. While this method requires more steam than
the cyclic method, it is usually more efficient at recovering a greater
portion of the oil.
The alternative to surface steam produced is the generation of downhole
steam that reduces heat loss and generates high-quality steam in the
reservoir that allows a faster rate of production of heavier oil and oil
sands. In the early 1960s, the major oil companies first suggested
Downhole steam generators. Several downhole steam technologies
have been developed over the last 50 years, such as the DOE and
SANDIA downhole combustion system known as Project Deep Steam,
which was field tested but was a failure in Long Beach, CA in 1982. The
only successfully tested downhole steam generator is branded as e-
Steam.
Software:
Computer Modelling Group., abbreviated as CMG, is a program for the
oil and gas industry that generates reservoir simulation software.
