ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY

Thermal Stimulation – In Situ Combustion

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF INSITU

COMBUSTION ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY
METHOD FOR HEAVY OIL RECOVERY
Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) refers to the technologies developed to increase
extraction of crude oil from reservoirs after primary and secondary production.

In situ combustion is one of the methods developed for EOR. In situ combustion
is basically injection of an oxidizing gas (air or oxygen enriched air) to generate
heat by burning a portion of resident oil. Most of the oil is driven toward the
producers by a combination of Gas drive (from the combustion gases), Steam,
Water drive.

Working on this project is done with help of CMG Suite Software. CMG
reservoir simulation software, which is recognized worldwide as the industry
standard for advanced recovery processes. CMG's superior technology
continues to break new ground for capabilities - simulating the simple to the
most advanced recovery processes through a combination of easy-to-use model.

After getting hands on the software, required data and the preferred properties
must be fed with proper knowledge and understanding so as to get the reservoir
model built. Once the reservoir model is built in the software, In situ
combustion will be applied in the reservoir and the result will be obtained. The
model works accurately within the reservoir conditions as the properties and
data are fed. The software also provides with time schedule. So, it’s easy to get
the flow regimes or the flow condition of the reservoir with the preferred
time(date/month/year).
The result of the project is to obtain the flow condition of the reservoir at each
time interval, after the application of In Situ Combustion with the required
Pressure, Temperature, and other properties.
