1. What tangible and intangible resources does your favorite restaurant have
that might give it a competitive advantage?

There are lots of Samgyupsalan opening recently at our place. One of the
Samgyupsalan where my friends and I usually eat is Grande. We started to eat there
way back 2018 and still plan to eat this coming Saturday.

Grande, as one of the pioneers of Samgyupsalan in Magalang, Pampanga is one

of my favorite restaurants. Grade started to open its business at Magalang Shell
Gasoline Station where customers can cook their own Samgyupsal meat. They also
offer spicy and plain wings that time together with some fruits, however, the place is too
narrow for lots of customers to dine in. After months of service, the restaurant relocates
their operation at San Jose Magalang, Pampanga. The place is ideal since it can also
cater customers from Angeles aside from the people in Magalang. Even us Arayatenos
prefer to eat at Grande. The place is no longer limited, and it can serve lots of people. In
addition, though it is along the street, it is not near the road where accidents were
prone. So, you and your family were safe from accidents and you can enjoy your food
without worry. Customers can also choose now either to cook their own meat or ask
staff to serve them. People who prefer not to cook are inside the store, while those who
wants to fry their own meat were in the garage. Grande also upgraded their menu, they
had additional 4 flavors of chicken wings, a special dish every day, and a hotpot. What
makes Grande special for me is they sell ice cream which is not usual in other
Samgyupsalan eatery.

Grande’s tangible resources includes satisfying foods in the menu, special dish
every days of the week, and different flavors of ice cream sold. Meanwhile, its intangible
resources include best-suited demographics, explicit arrangement for those who wants
to cook or not, and company’s unending yield for improvements.

2. Do any of the resources or capabilities of your favorite restaurant have the four
qualities of resources (VRIO) that lead to success as articulated by resource-
based theory?

Just like Soutwest Airlines, the resources of Grande were not rare and can be
easily imitated. However, what made them unique and powerful is the combination of
these resources. For instance, lots of restaurant offering UNLIMITED in their menu no
longer consider selling something besides the food in their menu. In terms of Grande,
what makes it special is it offers different flavored ice creams to its customers who are
willing to pay. As a pioneer of Samgyupsalan, the experience accumulated by Grande in
the years of operation made them successful and open for innovations. At the current
times, there are lots of unli wings and Samgyupsalan opening in the different place in
Magalang, however no one can replace Grande in the heart of the people who went
there.

Below is the VRIO analysis on the strengths of Grande at San Jose Magalang,
Pampanga.
