GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Then the Deacon, or the Priest, incenses the book, if incense is used, and proclaims the Gospel.
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every

disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved
with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like
sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest
is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R./Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
After the Gospel, and during the blessing by the Bishop with the Evangelary:

shows that priesthood is not simply a personal choice of the candidate but a decision made by
the Church. The Bishop inquires about the worthiness of the candidate(s). The response is
accepted and confirmed by the Church, represented by the liturgical assembly. The candidate
will hence be called the elect.

LITANY OF SUPPLICATION
In the litany, we ask God’s grace for the elect. The elect prostrates on the ground as an act of
total surrender to God. We call upon our brothers and sisters in heaven - the saints - to assist
the elect in his life and ministry as a priest. The litany is also an assurance that he will not be
alone in this life because saints in heaven and on earth will be with him.
Commentator
In the Litany, let us plead for God’s grace for our brother that he may be
sanctified through the help of the Saints. Please rise and let us prepare
ourselves to pray.
Then all stand. After putting aside the miter, the bishop stands, faces the people, and, with
hands joined, invites them to pray.
24
Bishop
y dear people (dearly beloved),
The elect prostrate themsleves and the litany is sung; all respond while the assembly kneel.
The cantors begin the litany; they may add at the proper place, names of other saints (for
example, the patron saint, the titular of the church, the founder of the church, the patron saint
of the one to be ordained) or petitions suitable for the occasion.
25
Saint Stephen and Lawrence.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch.
Saints Perpetua and Felicity.
Saint Angelus.
26

Saint Scholastica.
Saint Clare of Assisi.
Saint Catherine of Siena.

By your Death and Resurrection
By the outpouring
of the Holy Spirit.
27
After the singing of the litany, the Bishop alone stands and, with hands outstretched, sings or
says
Bishop
ord God,
LAYING ON OF HANDS
Through the laying on of hands by the Bishop the gift of the Holy Spirit for the office is conferred
to the candidate.
One by one the elect for the Order of Deacons rises. They go to the Bishop, who stands at his
chair wearing the miter, and kneels before him.
The Bishop lays his hands upon the head of each elect, without saying anything.
28
PRAYER OF CONSECRATION/PRAYER OF ORDINATION
With the elect kneeling before him, the bishop puts aside the miter, and, with hands
outstretched, he sings or says the Prayer of Ordination.
Bishop
raw near, we pray, Almighty God,
29
nd so, in the first days of your Church,
30
ay your commandments shine forth in their conduct,
After the Prayer of Ordination, all sit. The Bishop puts on the miter and the newly ordained
Deacons stand. Some of the assisting deacon(s) or other minister puts a deacon’s stole and then
a dalmatic on each of them.
Commentator
Please be seated. Our newly ordained deacons will now be invested with signs
of their office – the stole and the dalmatic. May I ask the friars who will invest
the newly ordained Deacon with the deacon’s stole and dalmatic to come
forward.
31
ITO ANG DIAKONO (HONTIVEROS)
(Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ - Timoteo Ofrasio, SJ)
The commentator instructs the assembly about the handing on of the Evangelary
Commentator
The newly ordained deacon will now be entrusted of the Book of the Gospels –
the symbol of his ministry, his mission to proclaim it.
Vested as a deacon, the newly ordained goes to the Bishop and kneels before him. The Bishop
places the Book of the Gospels in the hands of each newly ordained deacon and says:
32
ORDINATION TO THE SACRED ORDER OF PRIEST
These are the essential parts of the Rite of Ordination - the Laying on of Hands and the Prayer
of Ordination. Through these, the elect is marked with an indelible sacred character, and
constituted as a sacred minister of Christ and His Church. They bestow the gift of the Holy Spirit
that conforms the priest to Christ, the eternal High Priest.
LAYING ON OF HANDS
This gesture invokes the Holy Spirit upon the elect. It is the same Spirit that is present in Christ,
our Eternal High Priest, and the same Spirit of priesthood that the elect shares with the Bishop
and the other presbyters. The concelebrants also lay their hands on the candidates as a sign of
their communion in the priesthood of Christ and to signify the ordinand’s incorporation into
the presbyterate. While the laying on of hands is taking place the faithful should pray silently.
The elect rise. One by one the elect goes to the Bishop and kneel before him. The Bishop who
stands at his chair wearing the miter lays his hands upon his head, without saying anything.
After the Bishop has laid on hands, the elect kneel before the altar. Then all the Priests present,
lay hands on each of the elect, without saying anything.
Commentator
The ordination to the Holy Order of Presbyters shall now take place. May I request
those who are elect for the ordination to please stand and come forward.
33
PRAYER OF ORDINATION TO THE PRIESTHOOD
The prayer invokes what God has done in the past for his people: he gave his people priests to
minister to them. We pray that as God has done so in the past, he now gives us this man to be
his priest and so we ask him to grant this man what he needs in priestly life - the Holy Spirit. It
is the Spirit who produces in him the power and charisms needed in his ministry. The assembly
takes part in the Prayer of Ordination by quietly praying with the Bishop and affirming what
has been prayed with “Amen.”
With the elect kneeling before him, the Bishop puts aside the miter, and, with hands
outstretched, says the Prayer of Ordination:
Bishop
raw near, O Lord, holy Father,
34
lready in the earlier covenant
35
nd now we beseech you, Lord, in our weakness,
36
nd so may the full number of the nations,
After the Prayer of Ordination, all sit. The commentator instruct the assembly to sit.
Commentator
Let us all be seated.
The Bishop puts on the miter and the newly ordained stand.
EXPLANATORY RITES
These rites show the effects of Ordination. The newly ordained is vested to show that he is now a priest.
His palms will be anointed with holy Chrism to indicate that he has been anointed priest and consecrated
to God’s service, and now he will be able to consecrate and bless, and celebrate the sacraments. He will
receive the bread and wine as he will preside at the Eucharist and consecrate these elements into the
Body and Blood of Christ. Finally, he will be welcomed into the presbyterate with the kiss of peace from
the Bishop and the body of the clergy to which he now belongs.
INVESTITURE
The new Priests receives the stole, the principal vesture that symbolizes their life and ministry as Priests.
Over it is worn the chasuble, the vestment of the Eucharist. The stole and chasuble are symbols of the
priestly ministry.
Commentator
Our newly ordained priests will now be invested with signs of their office – the
stole and chasuble. May I ask the friars and the family representative who will
invest the newly ordained priests with the priest’s stole and chasuble to come
forward.
37
PARI MAGPAKAILANMAN (HONTIVEROS)
(Danny Isidro, SJ - Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ)
Some Priests and family who have been assigned help the newly ordained to arrange the stole
in the manner proper to priests and to put on the chasuble.
During the investiture with stole and chasuble and the anointing of hands, the suitable
antiphon is sung, such as:
“Christ the Lord, a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek, offered bread and wine [alleluia].
Next, the Bishop receives a linen gremial. Then he anoints with holy chrism the palms of each
one of the newly ordained, who kneels before him.
Bishop
he Lord Jesus Christ,
38
PRESENTATION OF THE PATEN HOLDING THE BREAD
AND THE CHALICE HOLDING THE WINE
By receiving the gifts of bread and wine for the Eucharistic Celebration, the new priest is
reminded that his priesthood is a daily dying to the self for the service of God and the faithful.
The handing over of the bread and wine, placed into the hands of the newly ordained, points to
their duty of presiding at the celebration of the Eucharist and of following the example of Christ
who offers his life for all.
The parents of the newly ordained bring a paten holding the bread and a chalice containing the
wine mixed with water for the celebration of the Mass. A Deacon receives them and brings them
to the Bishop, who places them in the hand of the newly ordained Priests as each of them kneels
before him.
R to be offered to God.
Understand what you do,
imitate what you celebrate,
and conform your life to the mystery of the Lord’s cross.
39
KISS OF PEACE
PAGKAKAIBIGAN
Hango sa Juan 15
(Bong Abad-Santos, SJ - Charlie Cenzon, SJ)
All the priests present, give the fraternal kiss to the newly ordained priests but not to the newly
deacon, as a sign of their being joined in the Order of priests;
And if there is another deacon present, they give the fraternal kiss to the newly ordained
deacons.
After that, all the new deacons and the new priests faces the bishop and bow down, after that
they turned to the people and confreres and bow down, the people applause them.
The commentator instructs the assembly:
Commentator
Let us welcome our new deacons and priests with an applause.
The Mass continues in the usual manner. The Profession of Faith is said when called for by the
rubrics; the Prayer of the Faithful (Universal Prayer) is omitted.
40

Fr. Allan Antonio
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. If, however, the Offertory Chant is
not sung, the Priest may speak these words aloud; at the end, the people may acclaim:
Blessed be God for ever.
The Deacon, or the Priest, pours wine and water into the chalice, saying quietly:
By the mystery of this water and wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
41
The bishop then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands,
saying in a low voice:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands,
it will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal.
If, however, the Offertory Chant is not sung, the Priest may speak these words aloud; at the
end, the people may acclaim:
Blessed be God for ever.
Bishop incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. A Deacon or other minister then
incenses the Priest and the people.
Then the bishop, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:
Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands, he
says:

Then the bishop, with hands extended, says the Prayer over the Offerings.

He bows slightly.
Then he says:

And the people continue, acclaiming:

The bishop gives the sign of peace to the newly priest and deacon. Then he takes the host,

The bishop genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above
the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
The bishop, facing the altar, says quietly:
May the Body of Christ
keep me safe for eternal life.
And he reverently consumes the Body of Christ.
The newly ordained deacons receive Communion under both kinds. Some of the newly
ordained deacons assist the Bishop in giving Communion to the people.
When the distribution of Communion is over, the deacon purifies the paten over the chalice
and also the chalice itself. While he carries out the purification, he says quietly:
What has passed our lips as food, O Lord, may we possess in purity of heart,
that what has been given to us in time may be our healing for eternity.
If appropriate, a sacred silence may be observed for a while, or a psalm or other canticle of
praise or a hymn may be sung.
