SPEECH OUTLINE

Topic: Procrastination and its petty pretexts

A. Introduction:
 I’ll make myself known by making a clever joke or two to appear approachable and less
intimidating.
Greet: *introduction* I’m sorry I’m late. I thought I postponed the speech.
 I will be introducing a query as a strategy to keep the audience watching and engaged while the
speech is spoken
Temporarily: Why do people procrastinate? Why can’t I get things done on time?
B. Body:
 Definition
*Insert different descriptions from different references: various dictionaries, psychology
books, famous writers -transition to answer-

 Distant or doable.
i. The task is vague and does not have concreteness.
ii. Lay down facts (according to construal-level theory, goals that are perceived as highly
improbable are also perceived as relatively abstract .)
 Optimism to overestimation
i. When a person relies in his ability to finish a goal within a timeframe but does not
accomplish earlier than they assumed to.
ii. Lay down facts (The planning fallacy is a phenomenon in which predictions about
how much time will be needed to complete a future task display an optimism bias
and underestimate the time needed.)
 Indecisive and apprehensive (must have a catchy meaningful phrase, first answer to the
query)
i. People don’t get things done because they get stuck over making a decision, that
are often with options that are too similar, too many, or too important. It can
lead to fear of making the wrong choice and so it takes up a longer time to do so.
ii. Facts (analysis paralysis, feedback loop, decisional procrastination(delay in making
a decision )

notorious causes of unproductivity among students: procrastination
 *end with a cliffhanger.. “One day or day one?” “What you want now or what you want
most?” “busy or productive?”
