Sampling – Exercices

1. In a measurement setup, the test signal is a 300Hz periodic signal. In the output, components up
to the fifth harmonic can be observed. At what frequency the output should be sampled without
any loss of information? What are the two contstraints of the theorem to be respected here?
Draw the block diagram of the sampling system.
2. Suppose the sampling of a continuous signal was done accoring to the sampling theorem. How
can the original signal be reconstructed? Draw the block diagram of the reconstruction system.
3. The band of interest of a continuous signal is 25 Hz, above this frequency is only noise. Describe
the sampling process so that the noise does not overlap in the band of interest of the discrete
signal. Draw the block diagram of the sampling system.
4. A continuous signal is defined by
y(t) = -5 + 1.5cos(15t + π/2) + 3.2cos(36t+π) + 2.5cos(45t+π/4) + 0.5sin(75t) [V]
At what frequency the output should be sampled without any loss of information? Draw the
block diagram of the sampling system. How can the original signal be reconstructed? Draw the
block diagram of the reconstruction system.
