Task 1. Design an original assessment activity that may be utilized in teaching poetry. Explain
and describe how it will be conducted in the classroom.

Introduction
In designing an assessment activity, it is important that you know the nature of your
students. Assessment activity in teaching poetry is challenging yet fun to learn with. It deepens
your understanding, mold your character, and widen your viewpoint. Poetry is difficult to learn
but if you put your heart in reading and broaden your mind, the most beautiful masterpieces
will unfold. With the help of assessment activity, students will have the opportunity to see
those masterpieces, they will see how creative and magnificent the poetry is. As a future
English teacher, I must deal with it. I may not be an expert now in designing an original
assessment activity yet but here is my own kind of version:
Pre- Assessment
Before anything else, teachers must feed the students the important facts about the
author, he’s or her cultural background. Since most of the poetry are inclined with the authors
experiences, students must know their story to empathize the author’s emotion. It is also
necessary to check unfamiliar words and figurative phrases before going through the actual
piece in order to students both learn new words and comprehend the text.
Assessment activity
Students will identify the figurative languages, give their meanings and use it in
sentence.
Students will work by pair and work on their given activities.
Students will make their own poem of their chosen topic.
Post- Assessment
In my experience in poetry class, I am always excited to learn because I have an
excellent teacher and she was able to relay the message clearly. Having a deep understanding
and connection of the masterpieces of the poetry is very rewarding. As a future teacher, I want
my students to feel the same way; the eagerness to learn and enjoy the lesson.
Final Assessment
 After the lesson, I will be asking my students how they feel about it. I will be asking them
of what they thought and if they disagree on something.
 I will be giving a short quiz in regards with the lesson the next day to prepare them to
study more.
