ACTIVITY 2 Critical Thinking Questions

1. What fuels Filipinos to become entrepreneurs? Do you feel the same

sentiments? Explain

Poverty in the Philippines is one of the most rampant and severe

problems the government must deal with. Concerning its nature, poverty
in the Philippines mounted to the rapid population growth in the country.
The effects of it are visible. Poverty causes many Filipinos not to pursue
their education. Some families don't have any choice but to go on with
their lives despite their situation. Due to the low income and salary, some
Filipinos decide to take the risk and open a business to sustain their
family's needs. Most of the entrepreneurs I have seen in some
documentaries shared that they form a company from nothing into
something big. I believe that these entrepreneurs' purpose is not just into
capital, but they also want to distribute their ideas to the people and make
others' life convenient.
I hold the same sentiments from these entrepreneurs, and I truly
respect them. Building a business undergoes a process and needs
excellent determination. I believe that entrepreneurs who came from
scratch have worthy-experience and reason. They are also the same
individuals who are goal-driven and self-reliant. They will work much
harder whenever there are deadlines to be met. To be successful in life,
they have this desire to set goals and work towards achieving them.

2. What are some of the proven traits of Filipino entrepreneurs that made
them successful? Relate this to some stories of successful nurse
entrepreneurs.

Socorro Ramos is a Filipina entrepreneur who established the

National Bookstore along with his husband. This woman brought alive
her business at the age of 19. She was a student at that time working as a
saleslady in a bookstore. I admire her for being a risk-taker. She started
with 200 pesos by selling books in her school. However, there was a time
where she and her husband needed to shift into selling other products.
They became resourceful and practical to try new ideas to deal with their
losses. Until their business becomes more extensive, that leads them to
build nine-story publishing and retailing building. Being hardworking and
persistent in pursuing what she had started, she reached this far and
renowned as one of the Top Filipino Entrepreneurs in the Philippines.
3. Which among the traits do you think you already have at this point
which can lead you to become a successful entrepreneur in the future?

I have this tendency to work effectively and efficiently within a

given period. I perceive myself as a disciplined and vision-oriented
individual, in a way that I clearly define my goals in life, and I am better
at setting boundaries. Having this light provides me a better perception of
how the people and situations in my life are affecting me, and since I
value my goals, it encourages me to establish limits against circumstances
standing in my way. I believe that we learn from successes as well as
mistakes. there will be times that I may face failures during the process,
but I keep in mind to use these mistakes as an opportunity and lesson in
order to stand up and thrive.
