“A Profile of Filipino Entrepreneurs”
1. What fuels Filipinos to become entrepreneurs? Do you feel the same sentiments? Explain briefly.
A lot of Filipinos aspire to become entrepreneurs because of various reasons and motivations.
First, Filipinos try to find ways in order to earn a living and finance the needs of their families, and one
of those is building their own businesses. Through enterpreneurship, they try to make high profit out of
the most affordable resources. Second, Filipinos utilize their talents and skills by doing what they love
and earning at the same time. Examples of these are those related to the art industry in which they gain
profit from their artworks. Third, Filipinos just mainly want to introduce something into the market.
These may be products and services that would help address the needs and improve the lives of the
Filipino people. An example of this would be the food delivery service businesses. Due to the ongoing
pandemic, people are restricted to go outside and eat. This service then brings food to the Filipino
homes, and addresses their need to buy food and even groceries outside without going against the
protocols. Fourth, idealistic Filipinos just want to make a change. They want to invent a product that
would probably be a game-changer—something that would be very beneficial to the community. Lastly,
Filipinos want this sense of pride that they get knowing that they are their own boss. When a person
enters entrepreneurship, he gets to control his own schedule, create his own company, and etc. These
people aspire to achieve the satisfaction, freedom and flexibility entrepreneurship offers them. I also
think of the same sentiments because entrepreneurship, really, has many benefits. These are exactly the
same reasons that motivate me to start my own business too.
2. What are some of the proven traits of Filipino entrepreneurs that made them successful? Relate these
to the lessons here in this chapter.
According to the article, the traits of the Filipino entrepreneurs that made them successful are
being confident and self-reliant, hardworking and goal-oriented, passionate, value-oriented, being a
leader and innovator, and having practicality and common sense. The abovementioned traits can be
related to the different skills in entrepreneurship mentioned in the lesson. First, Filipinos being great
innovators exhibit the skill of play in which entrepreneurs think of ways to innovate things using their
imaginations. This is also related to the skill of creativity wherein an entrepreneur creates new things
and discovers opportunities in order to resolve problems. Second, Filipinos being passionate, goal-
oriented and hardworking can be linked to the skill of experimentation wherein entrepreneurs attempt
to acquire knowledge and experience by experimenting to develop new business ideas and technologies.
In experimentation, challenges and problems often arise, and one must be determined in order to
achieve the end-goal. Third, Filipinos being value-oriented may be connected to the skill of empathy,
which is an essential skill of an entrepreneur who wants to make an impact. Having meaningful
relationships and empathy help entrepreneurs to collaborate effectively, make good decisions, and adapt
well to certain situations. Fourth, Filipinos having confidence, self-reliance, practicality, and common
sense may be related to the skill of reflection. This is a skill that helps entrepreneurs determine who
they are, where they are headed to, and how they are going to accomplish their goals. Lastly, these traits
stated in the article can also be associated with the lesson regarding truths about entrepreneurship. It
is mentioned in this lesson that entrepreneurship is a life skill. These skills of the Filipinos are not
applicable only to entrepreneurship, but also, these help prepare Filipinos to manage their unpredictable
future.
3. Which among the traits do you think you already have at this point which can lead you to become
successful entrepreneur in the future? Describe.
The traits that I think I already have at this point of my life based on my experiences are being
passionate, self-reliant, hardworking, goal-oriented, and has leadership skills. First, if I will assess
myself, I am indeed a very passionate person when it comes to things that I love doing. This is a skill
that entrepreneurs must have. My passion towards things will be my motivation and driving force for
me to learn more about business. Second, I always believe in myself in making decisions, thus, I am
self-reliant. I also tend to listen to other people’s opinions but I always make the final judgment and
decision for myself. I don’t let others influence my decisions especially at those times whenever I feel
like I am on the right track. Third, I am a very workaholic person, and this reflects my hardwork and
determination towards achieving my goals. I prioritize productivity rather than my leisure time.
Whenever I encounter difficulties and challenges, I always do my best to bounce back. Fourth, I always
set specific goals for me to achieve someday. This is very crucial in entrepreneurship since one must
pattern their methods to their end goal in order to achieve them. Lastly, I think that I have good
leadership skills based on my experiences. Ever since I was younger, I always loved leading, motivating,
and influencing other people positively. These are just few of the traits that makes me a potential
entrepreneur someday. I may lack some skills and talents, but my willingness and determination to
learn new things just for the sake of business are just incomparable.
