Chapter 1 emphasized how our present started from the past.

It widens my view of how things

should be seen. It made me think how hard life is during the old times and how big impact they made in
order for us, the current people benefit to the discoveries they had. Specifically in terms of food
resources, transportation, communication, health, entertainment, time management, education,
infrastructure, machines and so on.

Many years ago, I could never relate to the hardships and sufferings they experience because I
was born in an era where everything can be done easily and machines were everywhere. If I was living
during their time, maybe I was one of those people who have the eagerness to discover new things
because as we all know, we have the nature of not being contented of what we have and of course
there is no one in this world who doesn’t want changes for the betterment of everyone. My favorite
part of this chapter is the Sumerian Civilization because it thought us how unity can survive a nation,
which gave me the hope that there is still a solution to make this world a better place.

I can’t imagine living a life that they had. All I know is that I am so amazed not only into their
discoveries but to their strength and power that gives them the urge to search for how their problems
can be resolve during their days. It is really great to know how Science and Technology evolve and helps
everyone have an easier life. For me, I owe a lot to those people and their efforts must be given an
honor and should never be forgotten.

Lastly, my Filipino heart made me really proud of the Filipinos who contributed and invented
different things which are still being used up to this day. We are used to be seen by the other countries
as a low profile people but because of these, it made me realize how talented and creative Filipinos are.
It opened my eyes to never think less of myself that’s why I am very thankful to them. At the end of the
day, I was thinking if there is a time in my life wherein I was able to help for the benefit of the future.

Chapter 2 mainly focused on Science and it shows here how humans tried to find out the origin
of things. Discoveries of the earth’s position, human revolution and some psychological explanations for
human’s consciousness and feelings are discussed in this chapter. To be honest, since grade school, I am
not really into science but as time goes by, I was able to appreciate this subject maybe because of some
facts that have evidences or proofs that something is really happening which is very interesting.

I have learned from this chapter that there is actually a beginning of everything. It depends on
us who to believe in. But because of the Copernican revolution, it made us believe that sun is the center
of the universe which started the birth of modern astronomy. The Darwinian Revolution is probably the
best topic in this chapter because this theory says the line of “only the fittest would survive” which is
true. We must be strong enough to conquer everything in order for us to experience the changes that
happen from time to time. Lastly, the psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud, I can’t imagine how hard is the
process that he’d been through in order to come up with this idea. Those three revolutions opened our
eyes to the new discoveries of how scientific changes on earth and in humans happened.
Chapter 3 tackles about how medicine, farming and animal raising, mode of transportation,
infrastructure, education, and different organizations changes over time. Some of medicinal beliefs
during the pre colonial period are still being used up to this day, like the rituals, herbs and plants
especially on rural areas but thanks to some scientist who discovered the capsules or tablets which is
more accurate in curing different diseases. The rise of medical doctors, health practitioners, hospitals,
laboratory and medical tools gives more opportunity to everyone to prevent diseases from spreading
and killing humans. This modern world helps us to make everything easier than before especially in
mode of transportation, before they were just brought by the animals or through walking but now,
because of the modernization, transportation through cars are very easy. Education came in which
opens a big break for people to learn, maybe American colonization is a sad story from the past but we
need to accept the fact that because of them, education was introduced to us Filipinos. Studying science
started, Filipinos learned engineering and was able to create a Rice Terraces and infrastructures like
walls, roads, bridges, houses and establishments that are well designed and detailed through the help of
machines. Post colonial period talks about the organizations that used science discoveries to let the
Filipinos be aware of the happenings in our country with scientific explanations and illustrations. From
time to time, I learned how science really made a huge impact to our current situation. It is very
interesting to know this information because it gives me the reason on why should I appreciate
everything that we have today and it is all because of the person behind all of these discoveries.
