Reflection Paper from Lesson 1A:
Teaching as your vocation, Teaching as your mission, Teaching as a profession
According to Mark Smith, “Teaching is the process of attending to people’s
needs, experiences and feelings, and intervening so that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given.” Teaching was a tough profession since it shapes the heart, mind, and somehow the ability of every learner. It was like you will become a role model for them, for real. At some point, you may think that, “oh no I do not want to be like that in the near future because you are actually studying bunch of books again after you graduate in college. It will be a non-stop process of learning and learning such terms and ideologies and theories and everything!” On the other hand, you can change your definition of teaching in the positive side like “I want to motivate, encourage, aspire, and inspire learners to be able to produce more competent, versatile, determined, and God-fearing students.” As a future language educator, I have a mission, and that is to embrace the responsibility of a quality teacher. I realized that I should strive for excellence. I should not limit myself and think teacher as if I was like in a box. I should see the bigger picture of it so that I can also motivate myself to improve and enhance my skills and capabilities. For sure, it will be a burdensome but it will be all worth it since we will see our student’s success after a couple of years.
