What can you say about the decision of Sen. Koko Pimentel?

Do you think that it is right to risk the life and health of others for your own personal
interest?

As we adjust ourselves to the new normal of these times of peril, this pandemic has put a
toll on each and every one of us. Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III was tested positive of the
new founded corona virus back in the month of March. This resulted to him being filed by a
complaint by University of Makati law dean Rico Quicho to appear before the DOJ for
questioning. This earned the senator to receive a lot of backlash and criticism from the public as
a lot of netizens raised up their voices for the senator to answer for his crimes. As the following
months go by and further investigations has been apprehended, the senator still hasn’t answered
for his crimes.

As I read through a couple of articles and other news sources regarding about this issue, it
saddens me to say that a lot of people including the senator have violated these COVID-19
quarantine protocols that helps us control the virus from being transmitted to others. These types
of decisions made by the senator is an act of selfishness and should be acted on. Imagine not just
risking the life of other people you made contact with but also the life our front-liners who help
us thoroughly control this virus. Nurses, Med-techs, Doctors, and other medical front-liners have
risked their life for us and we are to repay them with more cases that they need to handle? I think
it’s a no-no. I understand that he was excited for his baby even though he doesn’t know the result
of his COVID-19 test but he basically endangered everyone in the hospital including his
pregnant wife and baby.

Now, is it right to risk the life and health of others for personal interest? I think it’s not.
Besides, what benefits would I get? It will just cause harm to others and I would not gain
anything. It is an act of irresponsibility and foolishness. In the eyes of the law, it is not allowed to
treat others like that. To sum up, harm to others outweighs harm to self and in this case, we can
apply the golden rule.
