This isn’t the first time I have made a blueprint of what my classroom would look like. Last semester for an assignment in my
first education class I had to do the same thing. So, I started out with what I had last semester and I didn’t expect to make any changes.
Guess what? I made a few changes. Everything is almost in the same spot. The door is at the bottom of the page and the whiteboard is
in the same place, as is roughly the reading and science station. What I changed is that I had the math station where the computer
station was and I moved my desk from the top right to the bottom left. I moved the desk because I realized that I was too far away
form the students and wanted to have a better view of them in this layout.
I also changed the student’s desks. I originally had 3 groups of 4 desks but realized that since the average size of a special ed
class is 10; there would be two students by themselves. So, I put the desks into 2 groups of 4; that way no body would feel isolated or
left out. The station/lecture table is in the same place because I wanted it close to the whiteboard. The station/lecture table, as you can
imagine, is where the kids will be when I teach the lesson for the day. Their desks are for individual and group work. I have separate
reading, math, and science stations so that a few students can be doing some group work specific to that subject and they will switch
stations in a rotation. I will be there if anybody as any questions, but mostly that will be group work. I want the kids to be comfortable
and feel like they have a nice area where they can focus on their work and discuss the classwork with their peers. Of course, this
probably won’t be the last time I change my classroom layout. My layout will change with my teaching style and so forth.
