REACTION PAPER ABOUT MARTIAL LAW

Every time I says that I am blessed that I was not born under martial law. However, that’s
statement wasn’t really big deal to me before. As the time goes by, One of my professor or
teacher explained deeply about martial law is and why it’s needed in time of revolt and terrorism.
In my perception made me believe that there is nothing wrong with it and he or she will not
suffer under martial law as long as anyone is not doing against the government.
When we hear the word martial law the first thing comes into our mind is that rebellion,
which is wrong. Everyone afraid, but the real meaning of it is that “ A rule applied to the military
authority of territory”. To protect the countrymen and maintain the safest condition of every
Filipino. Among of us dis agreed of implementing Martial Law before, but this is the way to
protect the rights of every human being. Martial Law is for the people that against the rule
government and not just to give fear to the Filipino people.
In my insight, since the advent of Martial Law I can say that people’s lives have been
safe. There are no bad people you meet on the street, you can safely go home. People were afraid
to commit crimes, since martial law was implemented under the governance of former President
Ferdinand Marcos. Then at that time the goods were not so much expensive unlike today, and
you cannot safely go home because of crimes is everywhere. Also in time of Martial Law years
the wealthy and poor was disciplined. They were disciplined through massive social changes and
development. A curfew was enforced. In the evenings, the young people did not roam outside
like what they did today. Students and pupils have been taught to work and not behave as
spoiled brats as many are today. The young and old were ordered to plant trees, and in order to
aid the green movement, government workers were expected to render service.
I was thinking that former President Marcos, he did a great job by implementing the
Martial Law “just for me”, since today the state of the country has no longer be safe, it is
surrounded by the dark crime. If we compare before and now, there’s a huge differences.
