Exercise #2
An amusement park wants to promote its business through radio and television. The
manager wants to have twice as many radio ads as television ads in the morning. There
should at least be at least 12 ads in the morning, while the combined radio and
television ads in the afternoon should at least be 10 ads. But there should not be more
than 4 television ads. How many ads of each type should be used if each radio ad costs
$6,000 while each television ad costs $4,000?

GIVEN:
Morning Afternoon Cost
Radio (X) X = 2y 6 $6,000
Television (Y) Y <=4 $4,000
Required >=12 >=10

1. Write the objective function: MINIMIZE 6000x + 4000y

2. What are the constraints?

(morning) 2x + y >= 12
But x = 2y
(Afternoon) x + y >=10
But y <= 4

3. What is the non-negativity constraint? X, y >= 0 X>=0 Y>=0

Purple: Morning

Red: Afternoon

Yellow: x<=4
4. What are the extreme points and their corresponding
costs?
Points Coordinates Objective Function
A (0,4) 6000(0) + 4000(4) = 12,000
B (6,4) 6000(6) + 4000(4) = 48,000
C (10,0) 6000(10) + 4000(0) = 60,000
D (8,0) 6000(8) + 4000(0) = 48,000
5. How many ads should be used?
Radio ads =6
Television ads =4

6. Constraints Available Required Slack

Morning >=12 2(4) + 4 = 12 0
x =2y 2(4) = 8
Afternoon >=10 6+ 4 = 10 0
y <= 4 4

In no more than 5 sentences, explain to your boss what you have just computed.

The calculation shows that toward the beginning of the day since the supervisor
needs to have twice the same number of radio advertisements as TV promotions, the
radio advertisements ought to be 8 in light of the fact that the TV promotions are 4
which has a sum of 12 advertisements in the first part of the day that isn't not exactly yet
equivalent 12, at that point toward the evening, since there ought to be at any rate 10
advertisements and close to 4 TV promotions, the organization could have 4 TV
promotions and 6 radio advertisements which are at the very least yet equivalent to 10.
