METHOD TO FIND CO2 AND CO:

• APPARATUS:
KANE 100-1 CO & CO2 Analyser

• PROCEDURE:
1. Start the meter using the ON/OFF button.
2. Meter now count downs from 45 to 0, in this time it checks the sensors.
3. Meter should be set to 400 ppm concentration of CO2 and 0 ppm concentration of CO.
4. Now remove the air from the meter probe using the pump button.
5. Turn off the meter. It takes 30 seconds to turn off and during this time, sensors are
cleaned and supplied with fresh air. If the probe is connected, make sure both analyser
and probe are in fresh air.
6. Turn on the meter and record the readings.
7. To measure the concentration of both gases meter should be set to Gas 1 mode and to
measure only CO2 it should be set to Gas 2 mode.

DETERMINATION OF SO2:

• PROCEDURE:

• Pre-luminary Steps:
1. Self-test:
verifies the functionality of instrument memory operation, battery and each alarm
indicator but does not verifies sensor functionality and instrument accuracy.
2. Bump test:
checks for sensor and alarm functionality when 1 or more sensor pass the test they are
functioning and unit will alarm.
3. Zeroing:
It sets each installed sensor to recognize the ambient air as clean air. If not truly clean any
gas that are present and relevant to type of sensor will be measured and displayed as zero.
Reading will be inaccurate until unit is zeroed in truly fresh air.
• Calibration:
All sensors gradually degrade over time. This diminishes a sensor's ability to measure gas
concentrations accurately; however, regular calibrations adjust the instrument to compensate
for this decline in sensitivity. During calibration, the installed sensors are exposed to an
expected concentration of calibration gas and, when needed, the instrument will self-adjust to
ensure the accurate measurement and display of gas concentration values

• Measurement:
i. Turn on the meter by pressing the on/off button for 3 seconds.
ii. Count down starts in which the meter carry out self-test.
iii. If the instrument pass the self-test, testing operation mode is on. During this the meter
measures the concentration of H2S.
iv. Insert the hose in the area where the hydrogen sulfide reading is to be taken.
v. Note the reading shown on LCD display.

DETERMINATION OF NITRIC OXIDE (NO):

• PROCEDURE:
1. Turn ON the meter and let it free in fresh air for a while, after that insert the hose in
exhaust pipe of an automobile.
2. Then ensure that there is no ambient air entering in the exhaust pipe.
3. Place the water trap vertical to the meter and wait for 2 minutes for the reading to get
displayed.
4. Note the maximum displayed reading.
5. Take out the hose and let it free in fresh air, then take further readings.
6. Apply same procedure for different exhaust pipes with a time interval of 2 minutes in
each reading.
7. Before shutting down give a time of 1 to 2 minutes to the meter.
8. If the reading > 5000 then keep hose in fresh air for at least 20 minutes.
• PRECUATION:
1. Do not exceed the maximum temperature of the flue probe.
2. The analyzer internal temperature does not exceed normal operating range, typically 0-
50°C.
3. Do not place the meter on a hot source
4. The water trap is vertical at all times. Water condenses in the probe line and can quickly
fill the water trap when the probe is moved. Take care and watch the water trap closely.
