the sensor is dipped (generally DM water)
Step 6: Wash the beaker and pour the sample solution in it to measure its
conductivity (ensure the sensor is dipped in the soln.)
Step 8: Press ‘MODE’ to get the values of Salinity and TDS of the soln.
Step 9: Wash the beaker, fill it with DM water and dip the sensor in it
Step 10: Press the ON/OFF switch of the instrument to turn it OFF
Calibration of instrument
Instrument: JENCO conductivity meter Model: 3173 COND.
Step 1: Prepare std. soln. of 0.01N KCl (cond. 1413µs/cm) or 0.001N KCl (cond.
141.3µs/cm) for calibration
Step 4: It will show previously set value of temp. coeff. (1.91%) with ‘CAL’
showing on the top. To change it use ‘up key’ (∆) or ‘down key’ and save it by
pressing ‘ENTER’
Step 6: Similarly it will show Temp. (25 deg C)(with ‘CAL’ showing on the top)
and Cell K (0.100) (with ‘CELL K=’ showing on the top) values. To change it
press ‘up’ or ‘down’ keys and press ‘ENTER’ to save or press ‘MODE’ to exit
Step 7: Then immerse the probe in std soln and it will show the conductivity of the
soln (with ‘AUTO RANGING’ showing on the top).
Step 8: To calibrate cell constant press ‘up’ or ‘down’ keys to match the cond.
value with the std soln and press ‘ENTER’ to save or press ‘MODE’ to exit
Step 9: It will now display the conductivity of std soln with ‘CELL K=’ flashing
on screen
Step 10: To calibrate conductivity, press ‘up’ or ‘down’ keys to match the cond.
value with the std. soln. (it will display cond value with ‘CELL K=’ staying on)
Step 11: After matching the cond. value with std. soln., ‘CELL K=’ will start
flashing again
Step 12: Press ‘ENTER’ to save the value and then press ‘MODE’ to exit
calibration and return to normal operation

PROCEDURE
Step 1: Switch ON the main switch and then the POWER switch of the instrument
Step 4: Press ‘F1’ to measure Parameters. It will open the ‘Parameter file list’
Step 5: Press ‘F2’ to set the Serial No. of the parameter to be measured
Step 6: It will ask to ‘Enter file no.’ and write the serial no. using number keys
and press ‘ENTER’ (If want to go back to previous setting window, press
‘RETURN’)
Step 7: It will open ‘Quantification’ window where it will give the information
about wavelength, multipoint calibration std. no. etc.
Step 9: Take the blank solution in the cuvette (50 mm cell) and place it in the
chamber maintaining the correct position of the cuvette.
Step 10: Press ‘Auto Zero’ and note the absorbance is showing 0
Step 11: Take out the cuvette, wash with DM water and take sample in it (after
rinsing). Place the cuvette in the chamber, press ‘START’ and note down the
reading
Step 12: Press ‘RETURN’ to go to ‘Mode Menu’ (Step 3) and repeat if needed
Step 13: Take out the cuvette after experiment is over and wash it with DM water
Step 14: Switch OFF the POWER switch of the instrument and then the main
switch

Measurement of %O2
Instrument: GASALERT O2 Model: GAXT-X-DL-2
Step 1: Long press the ‘Green button’ to switch ON the instrument and wait for
its initialization
Step 2: If it is showing ‘PAST’ in the display then press the ‘Purple button’
(extreme right side)
Step 4: Take suction by pumping (4-5 times) while covering the open portion of
the Black hemispherical part (to which the rubber tube is connected to the
instrument)
Step 5: After the instrument vibrates with alarming sound, stop suction and the
reading of O2 purity will be displayed after stabilization
Step 6: Long press the ‘Green button’ to switch OFF the instrument

PROCEDURE
Step 2: Set the upper limit of conductivity of the sample to be analysed by using
the knob (extreme left side). [It can be set as 1/3/10/30/100/300/1000]
Step 3: Pour the sample in the sample cell & put the sensor in it
Step 4: Read the conductivity of the sample by the deflection of the moving stick
of the conductivity meter
If the upper limit is set as 1/10/100/1000 then the upper scale (0 to 10) is
considered to read the value accordingly
Step 5: Wash the sample cell with DM water and keep the sensor dipped in DM
water taken in the sample cell
Instrument: ORSAT
Step 1: Connect the clamped bladder to the suction pipe of ORSAT & keep the
soln. bottle on the table [ensure all knobs are in closed condition]
Step 3: Rotate the 1st knob 90˚ clockwise (keeping the mark on the knob as )
Step 4: When air comes out of soln. bottle, place the bottle on the top of ORSAT
and keep it like this for 10-15 sec
Step 5: Rotate the 1st knob 90˚ clockwise ( ) and soln. starts rising through the
graduated tube
Step 6: As soon as the soln. level reaches the mark 100 inside the graduated tube,
rotate the 1st knob 90˚ anticlockwise ( )
Step 7: The soln. level goes down in the graduated tube and as it reaches near the
mark 0, rotate the knob 90˚ anticlockwise ( )
Step 8: Move the soln. bottle downwards. As the soln. level reaches the mark 0
inside the graduated tube, press the pipe connecting the graduated tube and the
soln. bottle and rotate the 1st knob 360˚ for 2 times ( )
Step 9: Match the soln. level of the graduated tube with the soln. bottle level. Both
levels should match with the mark 0 (otherwise repeat step 8 & 9). Clamp the
bladder.

PROCEDURE
Step 10: Rotate the 2nd knob 90˚ to allow the sample into KOH solution
Step 11: Move the soln. bottle upwards and downwards for 8-10 times [KOH soln.
level also goes down and up. Ensure the KOH soln. level does not go above the 2 nd
knob]
Step 12: Set KOH soln. level upto the mark on that tube by moving the soln. bottle
accordingly & rotating the 2nd knob 90˚ to stop air flow through it
Step 13: Now match the soln. levels of the graduated tube & soln. bottle and note
the reading (a1). It gives %CO2 of the sample
Step 14: Rotate the 3rd knob 90˚ to allow the sample into Pyrogallol soln.
Step 15: Follow the step no. 11 & 12 for the Pyrogallol soln. also
Step 16: Now match the soln. levels of the graduated tube & soln. bottle and note
the reading (a2).
(a2 - a1) gives %O2 & (%O2 x 5) gives %air ingress in H2 sample
Step 17: Release the sample by rotating the 1st knob 180˚ clockwise ( )
Step 18: Rotate the 1st knob 180˚ clockwise to close the air path through the tube

PROCEDURE
Step 1: Connect one of the pipes of the instrument to the sampling point
Step 1: Place the instrument close to sampling point and move the handle
downwards from its holding position by pressing side buttons (both side)
Step 5: Connect the connector of the sampling tube with the instrument connector
point by pressing it
Step 6: Connect the other end of sampling tube (rubber tube end) with the
sampling point
Step 7: Open the sample v/v and maintain air flow of 5-10 L/min through the
instrument (check it by sensing the air coming out of the sample exhaust of the
instrument)
Step 8: Block the sample exhaust by pressing finger on it and the measuring head
of the instrument will come up (ensure it has fully come up otherwise increase air
flow by controlling sample v/v)
Step 9: Remove finger from the sample exhaust and press the measuring head back
(Repeat it for 2 times)
Step 10: Again block the sample exhaust. When the measuring head of the
instrument comes up fully, it will show ˚C Dewpoint of the sample air
Step 12: Press the button I/0 to switch OFF the instrument
